Motorola has entered a multi-year global partnership with Danish audio brand, Bang & Olufsen, that will see “Audio by Bang & Olufsen” integrated into the phone maker’s premium device lineup.

The deal pairs Motorola’s mobile hardware with Bang & Olufsen’s acoustic engineering, with selected flagship Motorola devices set to feature audio tuned by Bang & Olufsen’s engineers.

Motorola, a Lenovo company, described the arrangement as more than a branding exercise, positioning it as a collaboration between two design-focused companies with complementary capabilities.

Audio integration to deepen over time

The partnership will initially bring Bang & Olufsen-tuned audio to select flagship devices, with plans to expand the integration across audio technologies, sound modes, new user experiences and a broader device ecosystem in future product launches.

Bang & Olufsen’s acoustic engineers will work with Motorola to define, test and fine-tune sound profiles for each product model and form factor.

The collaboration is part of Motorola’s broader strategy of partnering with lifestyle brands across sound, design, fashion, sports and culture to position its devices as lifestyle products rather than purely functional hardware.

A shared focus on design

Motorola’s VP of Design, Brand and Customer Experiences, Ruben Castano, framed the partnership as a meeting of complementary strengths.

“We look for partners who bring genuine expertise and share our belief in creating experiences that are meaningful for consumers,” Castano remarked. “Bang & Olufsen has spent a century bringing together acoustic excellence, craftsmanship and design. Combining that expertise with our approach to mobile technology and design gives us an opportunity to make sound a much more intentional part of the Motorola experience, and ultimately create something stronger together than either of us could alone.”

Bang & Olufsen expands its licensing reach

For Bang & Olufsen, the Motorola deal extends its Audio by Bang & Olufsen licensing programme, through which the company brings its acoustic expertise to partner products in categories where audio quality is a central consideration.

Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at Bang & Olufsen, Duncan McCue, noted the smartphone category as a natural fit.

“The Audio by Bang & Olufsen program is how we bring authentic Bang & Olufsen experiences to products and categories where quality audio is central to the key use cases,” McCue explained. “We’re excited to bring our expertise to Motorola’s flagship devices and together rethink the smartphone audio experience.”

The partnership is expected to unfold over the coming months, with further product announcements to follow.
