Synology Unveils NVMe Storage For Enterprise

Surprisingly Useful AI Article Enhancements

Synology has introduced a new enterprise-grade storage system aimed at supporting mission-critical applications. The PAS7700 is an active-active NVMe all-flash solution designed to deliver consistent performance and availability for high-demand environments.

The announcement comes as Synology marks its 25th year in the data storage and management sector.

Built To Handle Demanding Workloads

The PAS7700 features a dual-controller architecture within a 4U chassis, integrating 48 NVMe SSD bays. According to Synology, the system is designed to ensure uninterrupted operations across storage media, memory and network layers.

“PAS7700 is the culmination of Synology’s 25 years of engineering experience in data management and storage,” said Kenneth Hsu, Director of the System Group at Synology.

“By combining our deep software and hardware development expertise with close collaboration with partners and enterprise customers, we’ve engineered PAS7700 to deliver high performance at a price point previously unseen in the enterprise storage market.”

The system supports file and block protocols, including NVMe-oF. Memory can be expanded to 2,048GB, and the unit supports 100GbE networking.

Performance And Availability

Synology said the PAS7700 can deliver up to 2 million IOPS and 30GB/s in sequential throughput, based on internal testing. The company has positioned the system for environments where latency and responsiveness are essential.

To support business continuity, the platform incorporates built-in 3-2-1-1 data protection, which includes immutable snapshots, replication options and offsite tiering for backup.

The unit is also integrated with Synology applications such as Synology Drive and Synology Office. Synology said the PAS7700 can support three times as many concurrent users as existing platforms in its product stack.

Storage Efficiency At Scale

The PAS7700 includes both inline and offline deduplication, which the company says helps balance storage efficiency and system performance.

It can be scaled up to 1.65PB of raw storage by connecting up to seven expansion units. This flexibility is aimed at organisations looking for tiered performance within their infrastructure without incurring the cost of higher-end proprietary systems.

Synology said its goal with the PAS7700 was to bring primary-storage performance to enterprise customers without pricing it as a high-end, specialised system.

Availability

The PAS7700 is expected to launch in the second half of 2025. Details about performance benchmarks and supported environments will be available through the Synology official website.
