Equinix has introduced a new approach to distributed Ai infrastructure designed to support the next generation of intelligent systems. The announcement, made at the company’s inaugural Ai Summit, includes the debut of Fabric Intelligence, a new Ai-ready backbone, and the launch of a global Ai Solutions Lab.

The company said the new offering is intended to help enterprises handle the demands of Ai agents and agentic systems, which require scale, speed and compliance across regions.

Equinix said existing IT architectures are not suited to the complexity of distributed Ai. Unlike traditional applications, Ai requires infrastructure capable of handling both training and inference workloads while managing data sovereignty requirements.

Equinix’s Distributed Ai is designed to address these needs with a programmable, Ai-optimised network linking more than 270 data centres in 77 markets. The company said this enables enterprises to unify operations across geographies and move workloads closer to users.

“This is the infrastructure Ai has been waiting for,” said Jon Lin, Chief Business Officer at Equinix. “As Ai becomes more distributed and dynamic, the real challenge is connecting it all securely, efficiently and at scale. That’s where Equinix comes in. Our global platform provides the connectivity enterprises need to move data and inference closer to users, unlock new capabilities and accelerate innovation wherever opportunity exists.”

Fabric Intelligence

Equinix unveiled Fabric Intelligence, a software layer that enhances the company’s existing Fabric interconnection service with real-time automation for Ai and multicloud workloads.

Available in the first quarter of 2026, Fabric Intelligence will integrate with orchestration tools to automate connectivity, use telemetry for observability and dynamically adjust routing to optimise performance. Equinix said the service is designed to reduce manual effort and speed up deployment cycles for enterprise Ai.

Ai Solutions Lab

Equinix also announced a global Ai Solutions Lab that will operate across 20 locations in 10 countries. The Lab provides enterprises with access to Equinix’s Ai partner ecosystem and a space to test and validate solutions.

The company said the facility will help businesses mitigate risk, co-develop solutions with partners and accelerate adoption of operational Ai.

Expanding The Ai Ecosystem

Equinix said its Ai ecosystem now includes more than 2,000 partners worldwide. Through Fabric Intelligence, enterprises will be able to connect to a range of inference services.

From the first quarter of 2026, the ecosystem will include access to the GroqCloud platform, providing enterprises with direct, private access to high-performance inference systems without requiring custom builds.

“With Equinix’s Distributed Ai infrastructure, enterprises will be able to support use cases like predictive maintenance, retail optimisation and fraud detection,” the company said in a statement.

Industry Perspectives

Analyst firm IDC described distributed Ai as an essential step for enterprises seeking to remain competitive.

“Enterprises that fail to adopt a distributed Ai strategy will find themselves at a competitive disadvantage,” said Dave McCarthy, Research Vice President, Cloud and Edge Services at IDC. “Equinix’s platform accelerates this shift by offering instant access to Ai infrastructure, low-latency connectivity and enhanced data privacy within a neutral partner ecosystem.”

Groq Chief Revenue Officer, Ian Andrews, said the integration with GroqCloud highlights the operational benefits of moving workloads closer to data sources.

“As Ai shifts from centralised training to distributed inference, organisations need infrastructure that can support fast, dependable access to compute across regions,” he said. “GroqCloud, together with Equinix’s platform, enables businesses to run Ai workloads closer to where data is generated, improving responsiveness and simplifying operations at scale.”

Availability

Equinix said the new services, including Fabric Intelligence and access to GroqCloud, will be available in the first quarter of 2026.
