Surprisingly Useful AI Article Enhancements
The Australian Government says it, “Needs a coordinated approach if itโs to embrace the opportunities of Ai. The Digital Transformation Agency has released the Policy for the responsible use of AI in government, an important step to achieve this goal while building public trust.” On 1 September 2024, new Australian Public Service (APS) guidelines come into place requiring government agencies to publicly disclose their use of artificial intelligence within six months and designate a responsible official to oversee the safe implementation of the technology.
Here are responses from industry leaders to this change. We’ll update this article as more responses arrive (newest higher)…

The government’s move requiring agencies to publicly outline their use of artificial intelligence, and each appoint an accountable official is necessary to ensure the safe roll out of AI across the public sector. AI is a rapidly evolving landscape that demands ongoing, dedicated attention from government agencies to stay on top of the emerging challenges and opportunities this technology presents.
The dynamic nature of AI technologies necessitates a proactive approach to ensure that policies and strategies remain relevant and effective.
These use cases will be Australiaโs stepping stone to embracing AI and gaining public trust. Therefore, it is essential to equip the officers with the right support. AI is an evolving technology, and those guiding organisations like the APS need tools that provide control over their content and data. Ensuring that this information is available, verified, secured, and governed is critical to minimising risk in AI use cases.
While both the public and private sectors can benefit from AI, their approaches to implementation and regulation should differ due to their distinct objectives and responsibilities. By appointing AI Regulation Officers, the government can position itself at the forefront of AI innovation and governance. This proactive stance will not only enhance the governmentโs ability to manage the complexities associated with AI but also foster an environment conducive to sustainable growth and development. It is crucial for the government to continuously monitor and adapt to the evolving AI landscape to maintain a competitive edge and ensure the responsible deployment of AI technology.
OpenText is committed to support this initiative and work closely with government bodies to ensure they are well-prepared for the transformative changes that AI will bring. Our collaboration focuses on providing the necessary tools, expertise, and insights to help government entities navigate the AI ecosystem effectively.
