Zscaler has integrated its Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) service, Zscaler Private Access (ZPA), within RISE with SAP. The move aims to provide secure and simplified cloud migration while addressing the risks associated with traditional VPNs.
Addressing VPN Security Risks
According to Zscaler’s 2024 VPN Risk report, 56 per cent of organisations faced cyberattacks targeting VPN vulnerabilities in the past year. These findings highlight the need for a shift away from perimeter-based defences towards a Zero Trust architecture.
Punit Minocha, executive vice president of business development and corporate strategy at Zscaler, said the integration would help customers transition to secure cloud environments.
“Customers have been using the Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange to protect their SAP workloads for years,” Minocha said. “Now, we are launching a solution that natively integrates within RISE with SAP to facilitate the secure migration of workloads to a managed service and improve user-friendliness by eliminating traditional firewalls and VPNs.”
Key Benefits for Businesses
Businesses using RISE with SAP can leverage ZPA for secure and agile cloud access, eliminating reliance on firewalls and VPNs. The integration also enables Zero Trust protection by provisioning Zscaler connectors directly within the SAP environment.
Roland Costea, chief information security officer at SAP Enterprise Cloud Services, said the solution strengthens enterprise security.
“The integration of Zscaler Private Access with RISE with SAP enables streamlined Zero Trust security across SAP applications, providing secure access for users and partners while supporting compliance and performance,” Costea said.
Support for Hybrid and Multi-Cloud Deployments
By running ZPA within customers’ containerised RISE with SAP cloud environments, Zscaler enables Zero Trust connectivity to SAP S/4HANA Cloud applications across multi-cloud and hybrid cloud deployments.
Tobias Thörmann, network security architect at Volkswagen AG, said the platform enhances flexibility and security.
“Using Zscaler Private Access, we can confidently enable secure, remote access to SAP resources while maintaining the flexibility and scalability needed,” Thörmann said.
Georgios Billios, group service manager at Siemens AG, added that the integration is a crucial step in securing enterprise applications.
“Zscaler’s ZPA integration with RISE with SAP marks a significant step in securing and optimising enterprise applications in the cloud,” Billios said. “By seamlessly connecting users to SAP services while maintaining security and performance, this partnership empowers organisations to innovate and scale with confidence.”
Strengthening IT Security Strategies
Nataliia Iskra, head of IT security operations at Deutsche Börse, highlighted how the solution enhances security.
“This solution enables organisations like ours to enhance the security and reliability of SAP applications,” Iskra said. “By enabling secure, Zero Trust access to critical systems without the need for VPNs, Zscaler strengthens the foundation of our IT security strategy.”
Britta Simms, managing director at Accenture, said organisations must move beyond traditional perimeter defences.

“Using Zscaler’s ZPA solution to securely access SAP applications is a strategic move for organisations aiming to fortify enterprise security,” Simms said. “Ensuring every access request is validated based on identity, context, and risk is essential for protecting SAP applications in the cloud.”
Industry Collaboration and Future Insights
Sachin Singh, managing director at Deloitte & Touche LLP, said hybrid work environments require secure and consistent application access.
“Modern organisations operate SAP systems across a hybrid landscape, and today’s distributed workers need access from different locations,” Singh said. “This new solution simplifies SAP migration to the cloud by ensuring a consistent, secure experience.”
Industry leaders from SAP, Siemens, Volkswagen, Deutsche Börse, Deloitte, Accenture and Capgemini will discuss the integration at an upcoming virtual event. More details on the partnership can be found at Zscaler’s SAP page.
