Video game commerce company, Xsolla, has partnered with games backend platform provider, AccelByte, to build an integrated solution that combines backend services and global payment infrastructure for game studios.

The two companies have opened a closed testing program for the combined offering, which pairs AccelByte Gaming Services (AGS) with Xsolla’s payments and monetisation tools. Game developers can now apply for early access ahead of a broader launch.

The problem it targets

As studios scale live games across PC, mobile, console and the web, managing player persistence, backend infrastructure and global transactions adds cost and complexity. Many studios either build backend systems in-house, which requires dedicated engineering staff, or stitch together separate third-party solutions for backend services and payments independently.

The Xsolla-AccelByte integration is designed to remove that stitching. The combined stack brings AccelByte’s backend services, including player management, matchmaking, in-game store and AI-powered integration tools and analytics, together with Xsolla’s payment, subscription, monetisation and identity services in a single interoperable layer.

The goal is to let studios stand up and operate live game services without building backend infrastructure internally or staffing dedicated live operations teams, reducing time to market and speeding up iteration.

Closed testing shaped by studios

The closed testing program is limited to a small group of studios. Xsolla and AccelByte are positioning the integration as developer-led, with test partners directly shaping the feature set and modular implementation options based on their experience shipping live games across regions, platforms and player types.

During the testing period, partner studios will help validate the integrated backend and payments workflow, the deployment model and the global monetisation coverage available through Xsolla’s payment platform, which provides access to more than 1,000 payment methods across more than 200 geographies.

President of Xsolla, Chris Hewish, framed the partnership as a response to what developers using both platforms have been asking for.

“We’re building this backend and game services integration with AccelByte by listening to developers who use both of our platforms,” Hewish explained. “Our first test partners will help us prove that a studio can stand up backend services and global payments together, without staffing separate teams for each, and get to market faster as a result.”

AccelByte brings live services pedigree

AccelByte was founded in 2016 by game industry veterans who have worked on online systems behind titles and platforms including Fortnite, Epic Online Store, Xbox Live and EA Origin.

The company’s backend platform, AGS, provides managed infrastructure for live game operations. AccelByte is backed by SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Galaxy Interactive, NetEase, KRAFTON and Dreamhaven.

CEO and Technical Director at AccelByte, Junaili Lie, described the partnership as making the platform more accessible to a wider range of studios.

“AccelByte’s comprehensive and scalable platform and toolset is now more accessible and easier for developers to integrate and operate,” Lie noted. “We’re excited to partner with Xsolla, which shares our belief in making powerful technology accessible to studios of every size. By combining our technology and expertise, we can help studios launch faster, operate smarter and reach players globally.”

What the integrated stack includes

The combined offering is designed to cover several layers of live game operations. On the backend side, AccelByte contributes player management, matchmaking, store functionality and analytics tools. Xsolla contributes its payment processing infrastructure, subscription management, monetisation services and player identity systems.

The integration is intended to be modular, allowing studios to adopt the components they need rather than requiring a full platform commitment. Xsolla’s payment platform operates as the merchant of record across more than 200 geographies with access to more than 1,000 local payment methods, giving studios a route to monetise in markets they might not otherwise be able to reach without establishing local payment relationships.

Gamescom presence

Developers interested in the closed testing program can meet both teams at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, at the Xsolla booth in Hall 2.2, stand A030-B035. Studios can also register interest in the program at xsolla.pro/backend or contact partnerships@xsolla.com.

Xsolla is headquartered in Los Angeles, California, and provides commerce, payments and monetisation services to game studios. The company operates across more than 200 geographies and reports that more than 70 per cent of the top 100 highest-grossing games use its platform.
