Australian organisations are facing growing pressure from regulatory changes, budget constraints and a shortage of skilled workers, with digital transformation now seen as a business priority rather than a long-term ambition.
xAmplify CEO and Co-founder, Wayne Gowland, said the country is at a key moment in its technology adoption.
“Australia’s reached a real turning point when it comes to digital transformation,” he said.
His comments follow remarks from Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, Minister for Industry and Innovation and Minister for Science, who stated that Australia has “no alternative” but to lead in the use and regulation of emerging technologies. Senator Ayres also warned that the nation must “lean in hard” to artificial intelligence or risk being dependent on others in the global supply chain.
Acquisition Expands Transformation Capability
Gowland said the pressure to modernise is particularly strong in government and essential services.
“Whether it’s government or essential services, organisations are feeling the pressure to update ageing systems, speed up delivery, and keep up with rising expectations. However, a lot of them are still doing this without the right kind of support,” he said.
To meet this demand, xAmplify has acquired CTO Group. The move expands its capabilities in cloud infrastructure, enterprise platforms and intelligent automation, while boosting its pipeline of national transformation projects.
The company will also move its Canberra headquarters to larger premises in Barton to enable closer collaboration across teams.
Growth Backed By Investment
xAmplify has delivered digital programs for government agencies and large enterprises over recent years. The acquisition follows a growth investment from Macquarie Capital Principal Finance and will support the opening of new offices in Melbourne and Brisbane later this year.
However, Gowland said client expectations are changing.
“Organisations are looking for more than just one-off solutions. They want trusted partners who can help them connect the dots, from big-picture strategy right through to delivery, especially now, as they start to navigate the complex and fast-moving space of Ai,” he said.
“It’s about understanding how to use it safely, securely, and in ways that genuinely improve how they work. This expansion gives us even more capability to do just that.”
Complementary Expertise
CTO Group Co-founder and CEO, Kane Fillingham, said the companies’ combined capabilities will help public sector clients build secure and scalable digital infrastructure.
“Our expertise in digital transformation, governance and assurance, service integration and security architecture complements xAmplify’s strengths. We look forward to working together to support Australian public sector organisations with secure and scalable digital infrastructure that meets rigorous standards,” he said.
The integration is expected to help clients move data to the cloud while managing costs and maintaining security.

Focus On Practical Outcomes
Gowland said the aim is to ensure technology investments deliver measurable improvements.
“At the end of the day, what really matters is ensuring technology investments help organisations do better work every day,” he said.
“By combining our expertise and solutions, we want to offer more practical, tailored transformation strategies that fit the real needs of each organisation and help them feel more confident about embracing technology in ways that make a difference.”
