X-Golf To Open $1.5 Million Golf Simulator Venue In Newcastle’s Tighes Hill

A $1.5 million golf simulator venue is set to open in Newcastle’s Tighes Hill on 22 May, bringing the X-Golf indoor golf concept to the Hunter region.

The venue at Unit 350 Industrial Drive will span 612 square metres and feature six golf simulators, a bar and kitchen, access to PGA-accredited coaches and a range of competition formats.

Condensing a four-hour round into 60 minutes

X-Golf’s pitch to time-poor golfers is straightforward: a round that would typically take four hours on a traditional course can be completed in under an hour, with no travel between holes, no course delays and consistent play regardless of weather or daylight.

The simulator system uses high-speed cameras, lasers and sensors to track each shot in real time and deliver detailed performance data. Players can choose from more than 50 courses including St Andrews, Pebble Beach and Bay Hill.

The format is designed to appeal to a broad range of players, from experienced golfers looking for a quick hit after work to families and beginners.

Why Newcastle

The operators behind the venue have pointed to similarities between Newcastle and other regional cities where X-Golf has gained traction.

Roy Boase, who operates an X-Golf venue in Mackay, described the two cities as sharing a common profile.

“Mackay and Newcastle certainly share a similar social makeup,” Boase explained.

“We find ourselves anchored in communities that value lifestyle, whether that means spending time along the coast, playing sport or hanging out with family, so we know it’s important to make their downtime count.”

Boase noted that the format works well in industry-driven coastal cities where people have limited leisure time but value social and sporting activities.

“We see people drop in after work, meet mates and even bring the kids in. It works because people are busy – they still want to enjoy time off while staying connected,” he added.

Hospitality and community involvement

The venue will include a hospitality offering with drinks and share plates, positioning it as a social venue as much as a sporting one.

X-Golf Newcastle is expected to employ nine local staff. The X-Golf Group also works with schools on sporting sessions, community groups on charity initiatives and runs dedicated programs for women and junior players.

The venue joins an existing golfing community in the Newcastle region and will open its doors on 22 May.
