Vista Group, a leading global provider of software and technology solutions for the film industry, has successfully enhanced its cloud operations and secured its IT infrastructure with the help of ManageEngine. The New Zealand-founded company has implemented a range of ManageEngine products to streamline resource management, ensure compliance, and improve customer communication, addressing the challenges of operating in a multi-cloud environment.

Founded in 1996 by Murray Holdaway, Vista Group began with a focus on developing ticketing software to enhance the cinema experience. Over the years, the company has grown into a significant player in the film industry, providing software solutions for distribution and exhibition across the globe.

As a Software as a Service (SaaS) platform provider, Vista Group’s cloud operations team plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and performance of its products for clients worldwide. The team is responsible for maintaining service infrastructure, managing resources, and resolving issues promptly to prevent disruptions.

To continue delivering reliable services to cinemas and studios, Vista Group recognized the need to transition to the cloud. This shift promised greater flexibility and agility, but it also introduced the complexity of managing a multi-cloud environment. To address this, Vista Group adopted a hybrid platform approach, combining on-premises infrastructure with cloud resources to maintain control and security.

Vista Group selected ManageEngine’s comprehensive suite of products, including Site24x7, StatusIQ, DataSecurity Plus, and ADSelfService Plus, to simplify the management of its hybrid environment.

First Line of Defence with Site24x7

Site24x7 became a critical component of Vista Group’s first-line support. The AppLogs feature within Site24x7 has been particularly valuable for the company’s cloud operations team.

“The query language is so predictive and simple for our consultants to use in AppLogs. From an observability perspective, when we do get an alert, it’s important our consultants can very quickly triage and dig into it to find root cause analysis,” said Andre Potgieter, head of cloud operations at Vista Group.

Site24x7 also provides host monitoring and alerting across all infrastructure resources, allowing Vista Group to quickly ingest new resources and apply standard alerting profiles. This functionality enables global teams to use Site24x7 for triaging and investigating Level One support for SaaS customers.

“Site24x7 has host monitoring, which looks after all our infrastructure resources. More importantly, we now have the ability to very quickly ingest new resources and seamlessly import those for monitoring. We can also apply standard alerting profiles across those monitors,” Potgieter added.

Prioritizing Cybersecurity

To ensure compliance and maintain customer trust, Vista Group uses DataSecurity Plus to scan digital resources weekly and generate reports on the integrity of executable and configuration files. This process is crucial for demonstrating compliance to customers and maintaining the security of Vista Group’s operations.

In addition, ADSelfService Plus has addressed password management challenges by enabling customers to reset their passwords through a mobile app with two-factor authentication. This solution is used both internally and externally, enhancing security and reducing the burden on support teams.

Enhancing Customer Communication with StatusIQ

StatusIQ plays a key role in keeping Vista Group’s customers informed about platform status and performance. Each tenant is provided with its own operational website where they can monitor the platform’s status and receive updates on outages, performance issues, or maintenance schedules. Customers can customize their alerts to avoid alert fatigue and stay informed about the issues most relevant to them.

“Keeping our customers informed about whether the platform is operational and how it is performing is vital. However, many of our customers don’t want to be notified of everything, which can lead to alert fatigue, so we enjoy the customisation ManageEngine allows us to provide to our clients,” said Potgieter.

Positioned for Continued Growth

By implementing ManageEngine solutions, Vista Group has achieved seamless resource management, proactive issue resolution through monitoring and alerting, and compliance with regular scans and reports. These improvements have led to enhanced customer satisfaction, with real-time updates and customizable alerts, as well as more efficient password management and improved security.

“It comes down to the relationship for us. Engaging with ManageEngine was an initial leap of faith, and we are extremely happy. What’s kept us with ManageEngine, and will for much longer, is ManageEngine’s technical ability, local support, and the personal service we receive,” said Potgieter.

As Vista Group continues to grow and navigate the complexities of cloud operations, the partnership with ManageEngine remains a key element of its strategy to deliver reliable services to its global clients.
