Montreal-founded furniture brand Cozey has launched in Australia, marking its first expansion outside North America with a full home collection spanning living room, bedroom, dining, rugs and storage.
The company, which started with a single modular sofa in 2020, has chosen Australia as its first international market. Orders ship from a Sydney-based operations centre, with free delivery offered across the country.
Why Australia
Cozey’s decision to launch in Australia reflects what the company sees as a shared set of conditions between the two markets. More Australian households are renting for longer, relocating more frequently and investing in spaces that can adapt over time rather than committing to permanent furniture setups.
Frederic Aube, Founder and CEO of Cozey, framed the move as part of the company’s broader ambitions.
“Our ambition has always been to become a leading home brand, one that people genuinely love living with,” Aube stated. “Australia is a design-conscious, quality-driven market, and bringing Cozey here feels like a natural next chapter. We’re not just launching a product range. We’re opening a home of possibilities.”
From sofa-in-a-box to full home collection
Aube founded Cozey while a recent university graduate, drawing inspiration from the mattress-in-a-box model that had gained traction in eCommerce. His frustration with the lack of flexible, design-focused options for people living in apartments and moving frequently led him to develop a modular sofa that could be assembled without tools and reconfigured as living situations changed.
Since that initial product, the company has expanded into a full home collection including bedroom, dining and outdoor ranges. Cozey now has physical retail stores in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Los Angeles, with locations planned for Chicago and New York.
The company has grown to 300 employees and reports high double-digit year-on-year growth, with faster acceleration in the US market.
Modular design for changing households
The core of Cozey’s product range is built around modularity. Pieces can be reconfigured, expanded or refreshed without replacing entire sets. Covers are removable and machine-washable, and the company’s Aquaforte fabric includes stain and water resistance.
The approach is aimed at households where layouts change, families grow and furniture needs to absorb daily wear rather than be preserved. The Australian launch also coincides with the cooler months, a period when consumers typically reassess their indoor spaces and prioritise practical features like washable covers and performance fabrics.
Local operations and support
Australian customers will be served through the Sydney operations centre. The company is offering what it describes as a risk-free trial alongside a warranty, and 24/7 support via phone, email and chat.
Cozey operates primarily as an eCommerce brand, with physical stores complementing its online presence. The Australian range is available at www.cozey.com/en-au.
