Facial recognition and RFID technology enhance security at global event
Veridos will provide its eAccess system for the Munich Security Conference (MSC) in 2025, equipping the event with contactless access control technology for the sixth consecutive year.
The conference, running from February 14-16 at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof and Hotel Rosewood Munich, will bring together international leaders to discuss global security challenges. Veridos, a joint venture of Bundesdruckerei and Giesecke+Devrient, will supply its identity verification technology to streamline access and strengthen security.
Contactless access using biometric verification
The eAccess system uses RFID-equipped access badges and biometric verification to identify attendees as they enter the venue. Each badge contains a high-security chip, supplied by NXP Semiconductors, that can only be read by authorised devices. The chip is linked to a participant’s identity stored in a database, including biometric data.
As attendees pass through walk-through portals, the system captures their facial images and compares them to the stored biometric records. Veridos says this process enhances security while allowing seamless entry.
Marc-Julian Siewert, chief executive officer at Veridos, said the company is focused on combining secure technology with convenience.
“We are very pleased with the renewed confidence placed in us by the Munich Security Conference,” Siewert said. “This reaffirms our commitment to combining cutting-edge technology with the highest security standards to deliver secure and convenient access control systems.”
Advances in facial recognition
Since 2024, Veridos has worked with biometrics provider Innovatrics to improve the accuracy and speed of its facial recognition software. The company says these enhancements allow for faster identity verification, reducing wait times for attendees.
As an alternative to the walk-through portals, access cards can also be scanned via smartphones using a dedicated Veridos app. This feature enables manual identity verification by event staff, ensuring flexibility in the access process.
Sustainability focus
The access badges issued to attendees are made from recycled plastic. Veridos says this move aligns with sustainability efforts while maintaining high-security standards.
The company provides identity solutions to governments and public authorities in more than 100 countries. Its portfolio includes secure ID documents, border control technology and mobile identification solutions.
