Surprisingly Useful AI Article Enhancements
Veeam has launched the Veeam Recon Scanner, a new tool designed to improve threat detection and bolster the security stance of organisations. This new feature is part of the Veeam Data Platform and aims to help businesses proactively identify and mitigate cyber threats before they escalate.
The technology powering the Veeam Recon Scanner originates from Coveware by Veeam, specialising in threat assessment. It is geared towards the identification, triage, and prevention of cyberattacks, providing organisations with an additional layer of security.
Key Features of Veeam Recon Scanner
The Recon Scanner includes several crucial features designed to enhance cybersecurity efforts. These include:
- Automated scans
- Real-time alerts
- Advanced data analysis, which detects suspicious activities and adversary Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs)
These capabilities allow organisations to stay ahead of potential threats by recognising and responding to unusual behaviour within their systems.
Availability and Further Information
The Veeam Recon Scanner will be available for download starting in November. Businesses interested in enhancing their data protection can integrate this new tool into their existing systems at that time.
Protecting Against Cyber Threats with New Veeam Technology
The tool was unveiled at the VeeamON Data Resilience Summit.
Developed by Coveware by Veeam, the Recon Scanner builds on years of experience in cyber-extortion response. It utilises the largest database of cyber incidents globally to identify, triage, and prevent cyberattacks. This addition aims to strengthen threat assessment efforts in data protection.
“Protecting an organisation from a cyber-attack requires a coordinated strategy. This involves safeguarding data at multiple levels, but there’s always a risk of bad actors bypassing defences. Recon Scanner provides an extra layer of security by identifying adversary tactics and unusual network behaviour before an attack occurs,” said Dave Russell, Senior Vice President (SVP) of Strategy at Veeam.
Russell explained that the Recon Scanner collects and analyses data to spot unexpected connections, suspicious user activity, attempts at data exfiltration, and even potential brute force attacks. He pointed out that the unpredictability of dwell time — the period between system compromise and the actual attack — makes it difficult to detect and mitigate threats. By integrating proactive threat assessment capabilities into the Veeam Data Platform, customers can better identify and address potential threats, safeguarding their critical information and enhancing data resilience.
Addressing Increasing Cyber Threats
The rise in cyberattacks, including ransomware, is affecting both production environments and backups. Recovering from these attacks has become more complex, which underscores the need for robust data protection solutions.
Recon Scanner, now a part of the Veeam Data Platform Premium, offers users the ability to identify threats before they cause harm. By conducting regular scans, the tool identifies suspicious activities and adversary TTPs, enabling businesses to take defensive actions well in advance. This proactive approach is a unique offering in the market and is included at no extra cost for Veeam Data Platform Premium customers.
The integration of threat assessment technology from Coveware by Veeam enhances security teams’ ability to respond to ransomware incidents. Features like automated scans, real-time alerts, and advanced data analysis empower teams to act preemptively.
Enhancing Data Resilience and Security
Veeam Data Platform version 12.2, which includes Recon Scanner, reinforces the company’s commitment to data resilience, management, and security. The platform offers organisations the capability to protect, recover, and securely manage data across their hybrid infrastructures.
Following ZeroTrust Data Resilience principles and aligning with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure By Design guidelines, Veeam ensures its customers are operating within a secure framework.
The Veeam Recon Scanner will be available for download in November. Further details on the Veeam Data Platform with Recon Scanner can be found at the Veeam website.
