New Orchestration Capabilities Enhance Data Portability
Veeam has announced the expansion of its disaster recovery orchestration to Microsoft Hyper-V customers as part of the Veeam Data Platform. The update simplifies disaster recovery planning, testing and execution, offering businesses a streamlined approach to managing data resilience.
John Jester, Chief Revenue Officer at Veeam, said the company aims to ensure organisations can recover data quickly and maintain operations during disruptions.
“Data will inevitably be compromised, whether by threat actors or human error. Having a rapid and confident recovery process is crucial. Veeam makes sure organisations are prepared for the unexpected and that business continues regardless of challenges,” Jester said.
Enhancing Recovery Capabilities
The new orchestration capabilities are available to Veeam Data Platform Premium customers. The update allows disaster recovery orchestration of Hyper-V machines and facilitates recovery of other machines to Hyper-V, supporting businesses that are transitioning from VMware vSphere.
Jester said the latest release reflects Veeam’s commitment to supporting evolving IT environments.
“This release introduces Hyper-V support alongside VMware, reinforcing our mission to provide flexibility for businesses. Our zero data loss configuration helps ensure smooth transitions with minimal disruption,” Jester said.

- Seamless Data Portability: Automates data movement across platforms, removing vendor lock-in and enabling flexibility.
- Freedom To Migrate: Supports transitions to new hypervisors or cloud environments without requiring a new backup vendor.
- Automation And Orchestration: Provides structured and automated migration processes that simplify governance and reduce costs.
- Support For VMware And Hyper-V: Enables smooth data transitions with minimal disruption, eliminating the need for new backup solutions when changing hypervisors.
Industry Perspectives
John Annand, Practice Lead Infrastructure at Info-Tech Research Group, said the ability to orchestrate recovery is critical for business continuity.
“With data spread across multiple environments, orchestration ensures timely recovery. Veeam’s support for Hyper-V enhances infrastructure for existing Veeam and Microsoft users and simplifies transitions for those moving away from VMware,” Annand said.
Jim Ballowe, Chief Information Officer at Esquire Deposition Solutions, LLC, highlighted the value of Veeam Orchestrator in compliance and recovery testing.
“We conduct quarterly tests to verify that all machines—Windows, Linux or otherwise—come back online. Veeam Orchestrator provides detailed reports on what worked and what needs attention. This allows us to recover instantly and prove compliance,” Ballowe said.
