Veeam Software has announced the release of Veeam Data Platform v12.2, expanding its data protection capabilities to a broader range of platforms and applications. The update aims to provide organisations with enhanced data security, backup, and recovery options while supporting seamless migration across new platforms.

Expanded Platform Support and Features

Veeam Data Platform v12.2 introduces several new features, including integration with Nutanix Prism Central, support for the Proxmox VE hypervisor, and MongoDB backup capabilities. These additions are designed to offer more flexibility and scalability in data protection, catering to the diverse needs of modern enterprises.

Anand Eswaran, CEO of Veeam, commented on the release: “Organisations today face three critical challenges. They must protect their data, recover it rapidly when needed, and have the freedom to move to new platforms. Veeam Data Platform v12.2 addresses these needs by providing a single solution that ensures data resilience across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments. Data is the lifeblood of every organisation, and this platform ensures it remains safe, secure, and always available.”

Focus on Data Mobility and Security

The update enhances Veeam’s ability to support data mobility, crucial as organisations evaluate various hypervisor and cloud infrastructure options. With the new Proxmox VE hypervisor support, organisations can migrate and modernise their infrastructure without being tied to a single platform. This flexibility is key in today’s dynamic IT landscape, where cost and functionality drive decisions.

Krista Case, Research Director at The Futurum Group, noted, “Our data shows that improving the ability to meet RPO/RTO requirements and enhancing cyber resiliency are top priorities for customers. Veeam Data Platform v12.2 addresses these needs by offering robust data protection and mobility options, which are essential for optimising security and operational efficiency.”

Enhancing Cyber Resilience

Veeam Data Platform v12.2 also strengthens security with advanced features such as expanded health-check alarms, fast-tracked backups to archive storage, and full management of YARA rules. These tools help organisations identify potential data integrity issues, optimize costs, and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Martin Maurer, CEO of Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH, praised the integration with Proxmox VE: “Veeam’s support for Proxmox VE is a valuable addition for organisations seeking the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of open-source solutions. It allows customers to stick with their preferred platform for data backup and recovery while embracing their chosen hypervisor.”

Customer Perspectives

Organisations facing changes in their IT infrastructure have welcomed Veeam’s continued focus on data resilience. James Westendorf, Director of Technical Services at Lake Land College, shared his experience: “With the recent changes at VMware, we had to re-evaluate our hypervisor choice. Veeam remains a critical partner as we transition to Proxmox, providing us with the peace of mind needed during these challenging times.”

Veeam’s Commitment to Data Resilience

Veeam continues to lead the market in data resilience, with its solutions designed to ensure data protection across cloud, virtual, physical, SaaS, and Kubernetes environments. Headquartered in Seattle and with offices in more than 30 countries, Veeam protects over 550,000 customers globally, including 74 per cent of the Global 2000.
