New Zealand electricity distributor Unison has completed a migration of its core operations from TechnologyOne’s on-premise systems to the vendor’s Software as a Service (SaaS) enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform.

Unison is one of New Zealand’s largest energy distributors, supporting more than 120,000 customers across Hawke’s Bay, Taupō and Rotorua. The organisation has been operating in New Zealand for more than 100 years.

The transition covers finance, asset management, human resources, payroll, supply chain and enterprise management, all delivered through TechnologyOne’s SaaS+ model.

Replacing On-Premise Systems

Unison has deployed TechnologyOne’s integrated product suite to replace its previous on-premise setup. The vendor describes the SaaS+ model as a fully managed platform intended to reduce complexity and support continuous updates without requiring customers to maintain the underlying technology.

The migration also gives Unison access to TechnologyOne’s intelligent ERP capabilities, including Plus, an AI-enabled solution designed to simplify workflows, surface insights and support faster decision-making.

Modernising Critical Infrastructure

TechnologyOne Country Manager, New Zealand, Ben Sheehan, pointed to the broader pressures facing utility providers.

“Utility providers are under increasing pressure to modernise critical systems while continuing to deliver essential services to communities,” Sheehan commented. “Unison is modernising critical infrastructure operations in New Zealand by adopting TechnologyOne SaaS+, a fully managed platform that reduces complexity, supports continuous innovation and enables teams to focus on operational priorities rather than maintaining underlying technology.”

Faster Access To Information

Unison IT Projects and Solution Manager Sharon Jarvis described the migration as strengthening the organisation’s ability to serve its communities.

“Unison has powered communities for over 100 years, and this transformation strengthens the systems that support our network and people every day,” Jarvis noted. “Moving to the cloud gives our teams faster access to information, reduces system overhead and increases operational efficiency across the field and office.”

“TechnologyOne’s SaaS+ model enables us to keep focusing on our core service – delivering reliable electricity to the communities we serve,” she added.

Network Scale

Unison manages more than 11,000 kilometres of power lines and over $700 million in electricity assets. The cloud migration is intended to provide a digital foundation as the organisation continues investing in infrastructure, customer service and long-term network resilience.
