Trend Micro Launches Digital Twin Security Model With Ai-Powered Simulation

Trend Micro has unveiled a cybersecurity model based on digital twin technology, designed to simulate cyber threats and help enterprises test and adapt defences in real time without disrupting production systems.

The announcement forms part of Trend Micro’s push to shift from reactive security to continuous simulation, using agentic Ai and simulation environments to proactively manage risks across diverse digital infrastructure.

Ai Simulation For Security Testing

The Digital Twin model uses Nvidia accelerated computing and Nvidia Ai Enterprise software, including NIM microservices, to deliver high-fidelity simulations of enterprise infrastructure. These simulations allow security teams to visualise risk, identify gaps and safely run scenarios to measure resilience.

Bartley Richardson, Senior Engineering Director for Agentic Ai at Nvidia, said the technology provides the capacity to predict threats before they materialise.

“Organisations need proactive solutions that can anticipate and counter potential threats before they occur,” Richardson said. “Powered by Nvidia NIM microservices, Trend’s cybersecurity digital twins bring Ai-driven protection to enterprise infrastructure.”

Moving From Static Defence To Continuous Simulation

By moving away from point-in-time risk assessments, Trend Micro said its new platform enables a real-time approach to cyber resilience. The model supports threat simulation, investment evaluation and business continuity testing in virtual environments.

Stuart Samples, Chief Technology Officer at Northeast Georgia Health System, said the model has changed the way his team understands its cyber posture.

“Trend’s digital twin approach completely changes our ability to understand risk in real time,” he said. “It helps us catch threats we didn’t even know to look for, allowing our team to focus less on firefighting and more on confidently driving innovation.”

The model can be applied across legacy infrastructure, cloud environments, operational technology and Ai-driven platforms.

Simulated Threats And Policy Testing

Trend Micro outlined a range of use cases for its Digital Twin model, including:

  • Threat simulation: Ai agents can test known and unknown threats before they impact production. This helps validate mitigation strategies on a continuous basis.

  • Investment testing: Organisations can assess the impact of security tools and architectural changes before deployment, supporting data-driven procurement decisions.

  • Business resilience: By simulating failure scenarios, security teams can understand how disruptions affect operations, identify bottlenecks and refine disaster response strategies.

Frank Dickson, Group Vice President for Security & Trust at IDC, said simulation has a growing role as more threat activity moves into operational technology environments.

“As threats migrate to OT, proactive security is critical,” Dickson said. “Sometimes even probing a production network can result in downtime, making it extremely difficult to confirm vulnerabilities and defences. A continuous cycle of adversary simulation and validation becomes a valuable tool for staying ahead of threats.”

Part Of A Broader Ai Strategy

The Digital Twin launch adds to Trend Micro’s broader Ai and cybersecurity automation work. The company has also released its Trend Cybertron Ai model and agent framework as open source, supporting wider development of autonomous security tools.

Trend Micro is also building support for GenAi workloads and working on sovereign Ai infrastructure initiatives.

Mick McCluney, ANZ Field Chief Technology Officer at Trend Micro, said many security teams are facing mounting complexity in modern infrastructure environments.

“Enterprises are struggling to defend complex, dynamic infrastructure environments from highly adaptive, Ai-powered adversaries,” McCluney said. “Reactive, point-in-time risk assessments are no longer fit for purpose. Our Digital Twin technology empowers customers to simulate threats and validate security controls without touching production systems.”
