Los Angeles-based Chance Studios has raised $3.2 million in funding to build out its trading card game (TCG) collector platform, which combines marketplace functionality with social features aimed at turning collections into community experiences.
The round was co-led by Makers Fund and Hashed, with participation from Arbitrum Gaming Ventures, Gam3Girl Ventures and Digital Elm.
Chance positions itself as a “superapp” for TCG collectors, offering instant liquidity, transparent transactions and a social layer within a single platform. The company argues that the collector market’s biggest unaddressed problem is not authenticity, liquidity or fragmented experiences, but the lack of enjoyment after the point of purchase.
Early traction in open beta
Within two weeks of launching its open beta, Chance recorded trading volume that exceeded internal projections, including more than $100,000 in volume in a single day. The company has also built an organic social media presence, with its original content generating over 500,000 views on Instagram since launching in November.
Jun Park, Founder and CEO of Chance, described the platform as filling a gap he identified after extensive research into the collector community.
“After interviewing more than 200 content creators, institutional players, families, collectors and streamers, many of whom are close friends, we saw a clear and urgent gap in the market,” Park stated. “Collectors need more than a marketplace. They need a home where collecting leads to connecting. And that’s exactly what Chance is building.”
Founded by collectors
Chance was co-founded by Park, who has a background in frontier technology and TCG, alongside Arvin Dabiri, whose brand GoatedPullz has built a following in the Pokemon TCG buying, selling and vending space over the past five years. The rest of the founding team also come from within the TCG community.
The platform is focused on Pokemon trading card products, combining physical card sales with a digital platform where collectors can discover, trade and engage with cards and the communities around them.
Investors see a category opportunity
Jay Chi of Makers Fund pointed to the combination of marketplace and community features as the draw.
“Chance is a playground where serious collectors can not only find top chases and instantly trade, but also enjoy a community of like-minded collectors through group chats, shared games and more,” Chi explained. “We’re excited to back a team that truly lives and breathes this culture and is looking to provide a unique, all-in-one platform to the community.”
Simon Kim, CEO and Managing Partner of Hashed, framed the opportunity in terms of the broader collectibles market in Asia.
“TCG and collectibles are being redefined faster than any cultural asset class in Asia today, and the winners will be those who love this world most authentically,” Kim argued. “Chance isn’t just building a platform for collectors. They’re building the platform only collectors could have built. In a market where authenticity is the real edge, that love is a moat no fast-follower can replicate.”
Ethan Sy, Investor at Arbitrum Gaming Ventures, emphasised the company’s ambitions beyond replicating existing marketplaces.
“Chance isn’t setting out to replicate what’s already on the market. The company’s mission is to redefine the collectibles industry itself, building the infrastructure for a future where collectors don’t just buy and flip, but genuinely experience, share and build community around the cards they love,” Sy noted.
A growing market
The TCG market has grown into a multi-billion dollar category globally, driven by sustained interest in Pokemon and other franchises. Chance is betting that collectors want more than transactional platforms and will gravitate toward a product that combines commerce with social engagement in a single destination.
