TP-Link Systems has used IFA 2026 in Berlin to unveil its Wi-Fi 8 product lineup, led by the Archer 8 Ultra router and Deco 8 Ultra mesh Wi-Fi system.

Both devices are built on the upcoming IEEE 802.11bn standard and will pair Wi-Fi 8 chipsets from Broadcom, Qualcomm and MediaTek with TP-Link’s hardware and software engineering.

Australian pre-orders for the Archer 8 Ultra will open on 30 September 2026, immediately following a global online launch event. Australians can register their interest at tp-link.com/au/wifi8.

What Wi-Fi 8 Changes

TP-Link is positioning Wi-Fi 8 as a standard focused less on raw speed gains and more on addressing connectivity problems users encounter in practice: weak coverage at the edges of a home, congestion as more devices compete for bandwidth and interference that makes connections inconsistent.

The company has developed what it calls the Wi-Fi 8 StabilityEngine, which underpins both the Archer 8 Ultra and Deco 8 Ultra. The system draws on several technologies included in the Wi-Fi 8 standard.

Enhanced Long Range (ELR) and Distributed Resource Units (DRU) are designed to extend coverage at the edges of a home and improve uplink performance for distant, low-power devices. Non-Primary Channel Access (NPCA) aims to keep the network responsive as more devices connect simultaneously. Unequal Modulation (UEQM) and new Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCS) are intended to maintain consistent throughput in challenging interference conditions.

Archer 8 Ultra

The Archer 8 Ultra is a tri-band Wi-Fi 8 router delivering up to 19 Gbps of aggregate wireless speeds and 10 Gbps wired connectivity. It uses 18 internal high-performance antennas designed to provide coverage throughout a home.

The device has been designed at TP-Link’s Irvine, California headquarters with a minimalist form factor. A dual-tone grille uses micropatterns that catch light at different angles, while a soft emissive glow replaces the cluster of indicator LEDs found on typical routers.

Industrial Design Lead at TP-Link’s Irvine headquarters, Gary Chang, explained the thinking behind the approach.

“We stopped building a piece of networking equipment and started designing for the home,” Chang noted. “When a router’s design becomes something people want to display, it ends up exactly where it performs best.”

Deco 8 Ultra

The Deco 8 Ultra is a tri-band Wi-Fi 8 mesh system delivering up to 22 Gbps of aggregate wireless speeds and 10 Gbps wired connectivity. A three-pack provides up to 910 square metres of whole-home coverage and supports more than 200 connected devices.

The Deco 8 Ultra retains the familiar Deco form factor but with a compact footprint designed to fit into different home environments. It pairs a matte body with a glossy top panel.

Broader Wi-Fi 8 Lineup

Beyond the two flagship devices, TP-Link has outlined a broader Wi-Fi 8 product roadmap. The Deco 8 mesh system is planned for Q1 2027, a Roam 8 travel router for Q2 2027 and Wi-Fi 8 range extenders and adapters for Q2 2027. The company has cautioned that planned products, availability windows and specifications are subject to change and may vary by region.

Australian Availability

The Archer 8 Ultra will be available to pre-order in Australia from 30 September 2026 at major retailers. Full details of both the Archer 8 Ultra and Deco 8 Ultra will be revealed during TP-Link’s global online launch event on the same date.

TP-Link is exhibiting at IFA 2026 in Hall 7.2C, Stand 101. More information is available at tp-link.com/au.
