TP-Link Launches Solar-Powered, Wire-Free, Tapo Security Camera For Australian Homes

TP-Link has released the Tapo C645D KIT, a wire-free outdoor security camera system that pairs dual 2K lenses with AI-powered tracking and an included solar panel.

The kit is available now in Australia for $379 through the Tapo online store and selected retailers.

Dual lenses and AI tracking

The Tapo C645D KIT combines a wide-angle lens with a 6mm telephoto lens, both capturing at 2K 3MP resolution. The wide-angle lens offers a 165-degree field of view, while the system provides full 360-degree pan and tilt functionality.

Both lenses can be viewed simultaneously through dual live stream in the Tapo app, giving users two perspectives from a single device.

The camera uses AI detection to distinguish between people, vehicles and pets, triggering smart notifications based on the type of activity detected. TP-Link states that no subscription is required for core smart features including AI detection and notifications.

The system is designed to actively track subjects as they move across outdoor areas such as driveways, gardens and entry points, rather than relying on static footage from a fixed angle.

Solar-powered and wire-free

At the centre of the kit’s wire-free design is a 10,000mAh rechargeable battery paired with an included Tapo solar panel for continuous charging.

TP-Link claims the battery capacity is sufficient to maintain operation during extended overcast or wet weather periods, reducing the need for manual recharging.

The wire-free setup means the camera can be positioned without proximity to power outlets, offering flexibility in placement. Dual-band Wi-Fi support across 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands handles connectivity.

Built for outdoor use

The Tapo C645D KIT carries an IP65 weather resistance rating, meaning it is rated to handle rain, dust and direct sunlight. The camera also includes colour night vision, two-way audio via a built-in microphone and speaker and local storage support for microSD cards up to 512GB. Optional cloud storage is available.

TP-Link sees demand for smarter home security

Neville Wang, Managing Director at TP-Link Australia and New Zealand, described the launch as a response to shifting expectations among homeowners.

“Homeowners want security that can actively follow what’s happening, not just record it,” Wang explained. “The Tapo C645D KIT was developed to provide wider visibility and intelligent tracking in a format that’s easy to install and flexible to position.”

Wang added that the combination of dual 2K lenses, 360-degree tracking, solar charging and a high-capacity battery is aimed at giving households a way to monitor larger outdoor areas with greater confidence – even in changing weather conditions.

Part of a growing lineup

The Tapo C645D KIT joins TP-Link’s expanding dual-lens camera range, which includes the outdoor-focused Tapo C545D, the indoor/outdoor Tapo C246D and the indoor-oriented Tapo C245D.
