Tinder has held its first dedicated product keynote, dubbed Tinder Sparks 2026, revealing more than 10 updates spanning new social formats, safety tools and AI-driven personalisation.

The event, which took place in Los Angeles on March 12, outlined Tinder’s plans to shift beyond the traditional swipe-and-match model by layering in real-world events, zodiac-based matching, upgraded trust features and AI-curated recommendations.

Spencer Rascoff, Chief Executive Officer of Match Group and Tinder, framed the announcements around the expectations of the app’s core user base.

“With more than half our users under 30, we’re building alongside a generation that wants dating to feel more authentic, lower-pressure and worth their time,” Rascoff stated.

Music Mode gets a redesign

One of the headline announcements is a redesigned Music Mode, which first launched in 2021 and allows users to signal their music taste to potential matches.

According to Tinder, more than half of US matches involve at least one person who has a Spotify Anthem on their profile. The revamped version prioritises profiles that share similar music taste and features a cleaner interface with more prominent placement.

Early testing data indicates that one in 10 users under 22 have adopted the redesigned Music Mode since its rollout.

Astrology Mode launches globally

Tinder is also introducing a new Astrology Mode, which brings zodiac compatibility into the matching process. Users can add birth details to unlock their Sun, Moon and Rising signs, with insights into how they might align with potential matches.

Internal testing showed a nearly 20 per cent increase in likes sent by women on astrology-enabled profiles compared to standard profiles, according to the company.

IRL events pilot in Los Angeles

The company is piloting a new Events feature, starting with Los Angeles, that allows users to discover local events and see which other singles are interested in attending. Tinder is working with event hosts to bring experiences such as pottery classes and trivia nights into the app’s discovery layer.

A video speed dating feature is also expected later this spring, allowing photo-verified users to join scheduled virtual events for three-minute video chats, with the option to extend the conversation and connect with multiple matches in real time.

LLM-powered safety upgrades

Tinder is upgrading two of its existing trust and safety tools with large language model technology.

The “Are You Sure?” feature, which alerts users to potentially harmful language before a message is sent, is being fine-tuned to move beyond keyword detection to context-aware analysis of tone and conversational nuance.

The “Does This Bother You?” feature, which flags potentially inappropriate incoming messages and simplifies reporting, is also being upgraded. The update adds an auto-blur function that hides disrespectful content by default, giving recipients more control over what they see.

The company confirmed it is also continuing to expand Face Check, its mandatory liveness verification feature, to additional markets.

Tinder indicated it has launched more than 20 trust and safety features globally over the past several years.

AI-powered Chemistry expands to North America

Tinder’s Chemistry feature, an AI-powered personalisation layer that delivers daily curated match recommendations, is expanding beyond its initial markets of Australia and New Zealand into the United States and Canada.

Chemistry uses a Q&A process and optional features like Camera Roll Scan to build a profile of user preferences and personality. Camera Roll Scan analyses patterns in a user’s photo library to surface interests, lifestyle indicators and personality themes.

A related feature called Learning Mode is designed to accelerate the recommendation engine’s understanding of what a user is looking for by gathering real-time feedback. Tinder reported that for new women joining the platform, Learning Mode is associated with a higher likelihood of returning within the first week, based on internal testing involving 14 million users globally between December 2025 and February 2026.

New partnerships with Duolingo and Beli

Tinder is launching Tinder Connect, a new partnership initiative that integrates third-party apps into user profiles. The first new partners are language-learning platform Duolingo and restaurant discovery app Beli, joining existing partner Spotify, which has been integrated since 2016.

The idea is to let users showcase interests beyond photos and text, creating conversation starters around shared passions like language learning and food.

Profile and design overhaul

Tinder flagged a series of upcoming profile and design changes set to roll out through the year. These include Visual Interests, which makes hobbies and preferences more visible on profiles, and an AI-powered Photo Enhance tool.

The app is also getting a visual refresh. Profile photos will fill the entire screen with edge-to-edge blur and what the company describes as a “liquid glass” design across the Like and Nope interface elements.

Onboarding is being reworked to encourage more complete profiles, with prompts highlighting how adding photos, bios and other details can improve outcomes.

Double Date continues to gain traction

Tinder pointed to the continued growth of its Double Date Mode, which launched alongside College Mode last year. The company cited internal survey data showing that nearly half of surveyed Gen Z women on Tinder have identified it as a unique reason to use the platform.

Word-of-mouth appears to be a driver, with Tinder claiming that one of the most common ways Gen Z women outside the app hear about Double Date is through friends.

“Our job is to make that step easier, so more people can spark something new with someone new,” Rascoff added.
