Tencent Cloud has been tapped to provide the digital backbone for the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Dalian, China, delivering live streaming infrastructure and broadcast-grade signal transmission for the three-day gathering of more than 1,700 global leaders.
The arrangement, which covers the event commonly known as Summer Davos, also includes the Forum’s first official Weixin/WeChat Mini Program, giving attendees and remote audiences access to event information, live content and interactive services through China’s most widely used super-app ecosystem.
Live streaming across 53 sessions
Tencent Cloud’s Cloud Streaming Services (CSS) will handle live streaming across four channels covering 53 forum sessions, providing low-latency delivery of discussions and panels to audiences in China.
Behind the scenes, the company’s StreamLink technology will manage secure, cross-continental transmission of four primary live feeds between the Dalian venue and the World Economic Forum’s studio in Geneva. The link is designed to maintain connectivity throughout the event.
For instant replay and on-demand viewing, Tencent EdgeOne will provide content delivery acceleration and security capabilities, distributing recorded content to audiences at scale.
WeChat Mini Program opens new channel
The Weixin/WeChat Mini Program represents the Forum’s first use of the platform as an official channel. Powered by Tencent, the Mini Program will give participants in Dalian and audiences across China and internationally access to event schedules, live content and interactive features.
By embedding the event experience within the WeChat ecosystem, the Forum is seeking to broaden its reach among Chinese audiences who primarily access digital services through the platform.
Broader partnership signalled
The collaboration extends beyond the Dalian event. Both organisations have indicated it marks the beginning of a broader partnership, with the project establishing a foundation for long-term cooperation and future initiatives intended to strengthen the Forum’s activities in China.
Poshu Yeung, Senior Vice President of Tencent Cloud and Head of Tencent Cloud International, described the partnership as a reflection of the company’s focus on enabling global platforms with secure and scalable digital services.
“By powering the event with EdgeOne and cloud streaming capabilities, we are helping to create a digital environment that helps connect leaders and ideas worldwide,” Yeung told media.
What is Summer Davos
The Annual Meeting of the New Champions is one of two major gatherings organised by the World Economic Forum each year. While the flagship Annual Meeting takes place in Davos, Switzerland, Summer Davos is held in China and focuses on innovation, emerging technologies, entrepreneurship and industry transformation.
The World Economic Forum, founded in 1971 and headquartered in Geneva, operates as an independent international non-profit organisation serving as a platform for public-private cooperation.
Tencent Cloud is the cloud business of Chinese technology company Tencent. Its infrastructure supports customers across gaming, media and entertainment, finance, healthcare, property, retail, travel and transportation.
