Surprisingly Useful AI Article Enhancements
TCL has made its 2026 Super Quantum Dot (SQD) Mini LED television range available for purchase in Australia, with three models now stocked at major retailers.
The lineup comprises the X11L as the flagship, the C8L as a mid-range option and the C7L as the entry point to the SQD-Mini LED range. TCL positions the technology as an evolution of its existing Mini LED platform rather than a ground-up redesign.
What SQD-Mini LED changes
TCL describes three core technology advancements underpinning the SQD-Mini LED platform.
The first is what TCL calls Precise Dimming, which uses upgraded light-emitting chips, micro-lens technology, reduced halo interference, micro-OD design and updated light control algorithms. The company claims this results in improved brightness, better uniformity, stronger dark-scene performance and a thinner panel profile.
The second advancement is Super QLED, which TCL states delivers a 33 per cent wider colour gamut, 17 per cent higher colour purity and 45 per cent blue light energy optimisation compared to previous generations.
The third is an Ultra Colour Filter that TCL says was developed over five years. It uses particles smaller than five nanometres to reduce colour impurities and improve on-screen colour accuracy.
The X11L flagship
The TCL X11L sits at the top of the range as the company’s first SQD-Mini LED flagship model. It was initially shown at CES 2026, where it received the Innovative Display Technology Gold Award at the Global Top Brands Awards.
The X11L is designed to demonstrate the full extent of TCL’s SQD-Mini LED capabilities, combining all three of the technology advancements into a single panel.
Google Gemini AI integration
All televisions in TCL’s 2026 range come with Google Gemini AI pre-installed. TCL claims to be the first television brand globally to ship with Gemini built in, though the company has not detailed the specific functionality this enables beyond the existing Google TV platform.
Market position
TCL is backing the launch with market share data. According to research firm Omdia, TCL ranked first globally in shipment market share for 75-inch-and-above televisions in 2025, first in global Mini LED TV shipment market share in 2025 and first in global Google TV shipments from 2021 to 2025.
Hawk Zhang, Managing Director of TCL Electronics Australia and New Zealand, outlined the company’s approach to the local market.
“TCL’s mission has always been to make advanced technology accessible while continuing to push the boundaries of what display products can do,” Zhang stated. “We’re thrilled to bring our 2026 TV lineup to the Australian market.”
Zhang described SQD as a significant step forward for the company’s Mini LED technology.
“With wider colour gamut, precise colour control, more dimming zones, higher brightness and thinner designs, SQD represents a major upgrade in Mini LED technology and the future of television production,” he added.
Broader 2026 range
Beyond the SQD-Mini LED models, TCL’s full 2026 Australian range includes QD-Mini LED and QLED options in the P7LS, P8LS and C6L product lines.
