Synology has released the PAS7700, the company’s first active-active, all-flash NVMe storage system designed for mission-critical enterprise workloads.

The system is now available globally through Synology’s distributor and partner network.

Dual-Controller Architecture

The PAS7700 features a dual-controller architecture housed in a 4U chassis with 48 NVMe SSD bays. It can scale up to 1.65 PB of raw capacity with support for up to seven expansion units.

The system supports both file and block protocols, including NVMe-oF, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, SMB and NFS.

With up to 2,048 GB of memory and 100GbE networking, the PAS7700 is rated for up to 2 million IOPS at sub-millisecond latency and throughput of up to 30 GB/s.

Memory modules are upgradable to 1,024 GB per node, for a total of 2,048 GB across the full system.

Field Testing And Enterprise Validation

Bie-i Chu, Executive Vice President of the Synology NAS Group, pointed to the company’s background in storage and its work with enterprise customers in developing the product.

“PAS7700 reflects Synology’s 25-plus years of experience in storage and our close collaboration with enterprise customers to address evolving requirements for high availability, performance and scalability,” Chu stated.

The system went through a year of real-world validation through an enterprise proof-of-concept program before reaching general availability.

“PAS7700 is field-proven to deliver high reliability and performance, while helping customers lower total cost of ownership,” Chu added.

Resilience And Uptime

The PAS7700 is built for environments where downtime and data loss are not acceptable. Its active-active architecture provides multi-layer redundancy through RAID triple-parity, synchronised in-memory write protection, IP failover and protocol-level failover.

These capabilities are designed to ensure continuous operations even during unexpected incidents.

Data Protection Features

The system ships with a range of built-in data protection tools. These include Self-Encrypting Drives (SEDs), Write-Once Read-Many (WORM) shared folders, immutable snapshots, Snapshot Replication and Hyper Backup.

These features give organisations access to Synology’s suite of data protection capabilities without requiring separate purchases or third-party tools.

Storage Efficiency And Cost Management

The PAS7700 includes advanced deduplication to reduce storage consumption across large-scale enterprise workloads.

Synology has also flagged upcoming support for Synology Tiering, which will automatically move cold data to lower-cost storage based on customisable policies. This reserves high-performance storage for active workloads and is aimed at helping organisations manage costs as data volumes grow.

Availability

The PAS7700 is available now through Synology’s global distributor and partner network. Further details can be found at www.synology.com/products/PAS7700.
