Swiss bank integrates Ai-driven solutions to streamline operations

MongoDB has partnered with Lombard Odier to modernise its banking technology, integrating Ai-driven tools to enhance services and streamline operations. The Swiss private bank, established in 1796, is working with MongoDB to reduce technical complexity and accelerate digital transformation.

Modernisation push

Banks are under pressure to deliver seamless digital experiences while keeping costs down. Lombard Odier’s seven-year GX Program, launched in 2020, aims to upgrade its banking architecture to support faster innovation, minimise service disruptions and improve customer interactions.

The bank has worked with MongoDB for over a decade and selected it as the data platform for its transformation initiative. Initially, Lombard Odier migrated its portfolio management system (PMS) to MongoDB. PMS, the bank’s largest application, is used to manage shares, bonds, exchange-traded funds and other financial instruments. It plays a key role in investment decisions and portfolio management and powers the bank’s online banking platform, MyLO.

Streamlining with Ai

To speed up its technology overhaul, Lombard Odier worked with MongoDB’s Modernisation Factory. This service is designed to help businesses transition from legacy applications by addressing time, cost and risk challenges. The partnership introduced generative Ai tools, including scripts and automation features, to simplify integration testing and code deployment.

Geoffroy De Ridder, Head of Technology and Operations at Lombard Odier, said the collaboration has delivered significant benefits.

“To enhance Lombard Odier’s business strategy, we developed a technology platform that draws on the latest innovations to support employees’ daily tasks and provide clients with personalised investment insights,” De Ridder said. “MongoDB’s cloud-agnostic database platform and Ai-driven modernisation approach allow us to automate tasks, accelerate upgrades and migrate applications faster than ever. This has been efficient, cost-effective and has reduced maintenance overheads.”

Expanding Ai applications

Beyond PMS, Lombard Odier has updated multiple applications, moving from its Java-based application server to a next-generation framework. The bank has also used generative Ai in its marketing platform, Publications, to speed up code migration.

MongoDB’s modernisation tools have enabled developers to integrate Ai-powered features into testing scenarios and automate code generation, improving efficiency.

Sahir Azam, Chief Product Officer at MongoDB, highlighted the challenges faced by financial institutions with longstanding legacy systems.

“Financial institutions with as much history as Lombard Odier have complex legacy systems that have supported the business for decades. It’s crucial for organisations to assess these systems and determine if they meet future needs,” Azam said. “This can seem overwhelming, but working with Lombard Odier has shown that transformation is possible with the right technology. Their modernisation efforts position them to adopt new technologies that enhance customer experience.”
