Stripe has confirmed it will bring its small business financing product, Stripe Capital, to Australia. The move comes as the company announced more than 1 million users across Australia and New Zealand, spanning global firms to solo operators.

The announcement was made at Stripe Tour Sydney, where the company highlighted increasing demand in the region for scalable financial infrastructure. Tens of thousands of new users are joining each month.

Access To Capital For SMBs

Stripe Capital is designed to provide eligible small and medium-sized businesses with faster access to financing through the Stripe platform. Funds will be available in one to two business days following approval, with repayments tied to business earnings.

Karl Durrance, Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand at Stripe, said many businesses are finding it harder to secure funding.

“SMBs are the backbone of the Australian economy, but the cost of doing business has risen sharply and around half report difficulty securing funding,” Durrance said.

“Stripe Capital is designed to tackle their challenges head-on. We’re giving businesses fast access to financing with a clear, flat fee and flexible repayment terms that adjust to their sales. It’s capital designed for the realities of running a business today.”

Stripe said pre-approved offers will be generated using payment data from businesses already processing with Stripe. There will be no compounding interest, late fees or penalties for early repayment.

Platforms that use Stripe, such as me&u, will also be able to extend financing options to their customers. Stripe Capital is expected to become available in Australia in the coming months.

Research On Business Sentiment

Stripe released new research alongside the announcement, showing 92 per cent of Australian business leaders surveyed expect a challenging year ahead. Rising costs were cited as the top concern by more than half of decision-makers, followed by economic uncertainty and customer retention.

Despite the pressures, 85 per cent of those surveyed expressed confidence in adopting new technology tools to strengthen their operations.

Ai And Agentic Ai Adoption

Ai is leading the innovation agenda, with 70 per cent of businesses surveyed already using the technology in areas such as customer service, fraud detection, sales and marketing, and product development.

Larger organisations are beginning to trial agentic Ai, with 30 per cent saying they are already implementing it.

Durrance said Australian companies are early adopters in this area.

“Agentic Ai and stablecoins aren’t just Silicon Valley topics anymore – they’re reshaping the fundamentals of internet commerce,” he said. “Stripe is making this future accessible for Australian businesses, helping them transform how they serve customers and operate in an increasingly Ai-driven and global economy.”

Stripe reported that Australian customers rank second globally, behind the United States, for use of its agent toolkit, which is designed to optimise checkouts for Ai agents as well as humans.

Stablecoins And Cross-Border Growth

The research also found that 53 per cent of decision makers are using or planning to use stablecoins to expand internationally. Stripe said cross-border payments by Australian businesses on its platform grew 30 per cent year-on-year, with 14 per cent more firms selling internationally in 2024.

Stablecoins, Stripe suggested, could further accelerate this trend by enabling businesses to reach multiple markets through a single integration.

Expanding Financial Services

To support users, Stripe announced more than 50 upgrades across its payments, revenue and embedded finance offerings.

These include the Stripe Reader S710, a new smart reader with cellular connectivity so payments can continue even if Wi-Fi is disrupted, and Stripe Orchestration, which gives businesses more control over multiple payment processors.

The company also introduced Stripe Startups, a program for early-stage, venture-backed businesses. The program provides founders with access to financial benefits, resources and a dedicated community to support growth.
