Japanese streetwear brand A Bathing Ape is moving its point-of-sale and inventory management systems across its Hong Kong flagship stores and global outlets to Tencent Cloud, in a three-way collaboration with retail solutions provider UXSoft Global Limited.

The migration, which has already completed its production rollout over the past year, integrates UXSoft’s omnichannel retail suite with Tencent Cloud’s infrastructure to create a centralised, cloud-native retail management platform for the brand, known widely as BAPE.

The deal was signed at Tencent Cloud Day Hong Kong.

Replacing fragmented systems with a unified platform

The core of the project involves replacing what were previously separate systems across BAPE’s regional operations with a single cloud-based retail operating system.

The platform is designed to synchronise limited-edition product launches and VIP membership data in real time across regions – a requirement driven by BAPE’s “drop” model, where high-demand products are released in limited quantities and sell out quickly. Managing inventory, transactions and membership data across multiple countries during these peak periods places specific demands on both infrastructure performance and data consistency.

UXSoft’s FashionPro retail management suite, which draws on the company’s 15 years of experience in fashion retail technology, provides the application layer. Tencent Cloud supplies the underlying infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), networking and security services, hosted in what Tencent describes as a high-concurrency environment capable of processing high transaction volumes with low latency during peak launch windows.

Tencent Cloud’s global infrastructure spans 23 regions, providing BAPE with data residency options and the ability to scale operations across its outlets in Asia, Europe and North America from a single platform.

AI features being added to retail suite

UXSoft is also upgrading its FashionPro platform with AI-powered features specifically for BAPE’s global operations, though the company did not detail which specific AI capabilities are being introduced.

Boris Lo, Chief Operations Officer of UXSoft Global Limited, described the partnership as a combination of cloud infrastructure and retail domain expertise.

“Beyond leveraging Tencent Cloud as the foundational framework, UXSoft proactively upgrades FashionPro with AI-powered functionalities for BAPE worldwide,” Lo explained. “Our integrated Retail Management system built on Tencent Cloud delivers a flexible, responsive business ecosystem, empowering the brand to efficiently handle intricate retail operations and sustain uniform customer service experiences.”

Why cloud matters for the drop model

BAPE’s business model creates a specific set of infrastructure challenges. The brand’s limited-edition releases generate concentrated spikes in online and in-store transaction volumes that need to be processed reliably across multiple time zones simultaneously. Inventory accuracy during these windows is critical, as overselling or synchronisation failures across regions can damage both the brand and the customer experience.

Raymond Ip, Global IT Director of BAPE Hong Kong Limited, framed the migration as a step toward aligning the brand’s technology with its international operations.

“Transitioning to a cloud-native infrastructure marks a strategic step forward for our brand’s global evolution,” Ip told media. “We are future-proofing our business operations and ensuring that our technological capabilities match the spirit of BAPE on the international stage.”

BAPE was founded in 1993 in Harajuku, Tokyo, and is known for its camouflage designs and connection to street culture. The brand is now headquartered in Hong Kong, from where it oversees international business operations spanning apparel, footwear and lifestyle products across Asia, Europe and North America.

Tencent Cloud’s retail ambitions in Asia Pacific

For Tencent Cloud, the BAPE deal represents a reference case for its retail vertical in the Asia Pacific region.

Steven Choi, General Manager of Tencent Cloud Hong Kong and Macau, positioned the collaboration as a model for how cloud infrastructure can support fashion and retail brands operating across borders.

“By providing a resilient and globally scalable cloud foundation, Tencent Cloud is empowering brands to transcend geographic boundaries and innovate their business models,” Choi noted.

UXSoft, which operates across more than 10 countries and regions, specialises in retail digitalisation for fashion and apparel businesses. The company’s involvement in the deal gives Tencent Cloud a channel into the fashion retail segment through an established integrator with domain-specific software, rather than competing on generic cloud services alone.

The project is notable for the breadth of what is being centralised. Rather than migrating a single system or function, the collaboration brings POS, inventory management, membership data and omnichannel retail operations onto a single cloud platform across all of BAPE’s global outlets. For a brand that operates on a model where speed, scarcity and global coordination are central to the commercial proposition, the infrastructure underpinning those capabilities is a competitive consideration rather than a back-office concern.
