South Korean dash cam manufacturer, Thinkware, has launched its U3000 Pro in Australia, a dual-channel dash cam that pairs Sony STARVIS 2 sensors with built-in radar-based parking monitoring aimed at drivers dealing with rising insurance costs and road safety concerns.
The device records in 4K UHD from the front and 2K QHD from the rear, and uses 60 GHz radar to detect motion around a parked vehicle while drawing less power than traditional motion-detection systems.
Insurance Pressures And Road Deaths Drive Demand
The launch comes as Australian motorists face mounting costs behind the wheel. Motor insurance premiums have increased more than 40 per cent over the past six years, according to the Insurance Council of Australia.
At the same time, the Australian Automobile Association reported more than 1,300 road deaths in 2025, a figure that underscores the ongoing demand for reliable in-vehicle recording.
Dash cam footage has become an increasingly common factor in insurance claims and dispute resolution, with both personal and fleet operators turning to higher-quality recording hardware to document incidents on the road and in car parks.
Dual Sony Sensors Handle Day And Night Conditions
The U3000 Pro is built around two Sony STARVIS 2 image sensors, one for the front-facing camera and one for the rear. The front channel records at 4K resolution while the rear captures at 2K.
Thinkware has included dual HDR processing to manage exposure in high-contrast lighting, along with what the company calls Super Night Vision 4.0 for improved low-light performance.
An optional infrared interior camera can be added for cabin coverage, a feature likely to appeal to rideshare drivers and fleet operators who need to record what happens inside the vehicle as well as outside.
Radar Parking Mode Targets Battery Efficiency
One of the more notable features of the U3000 Pro is its built-in 60 GHz radar system, which monitors the front and rear of the vehicle while parked.
Rather than relying solely on camera-based motion detection, the radar approach allows the device to remain in a lower-power standby state and activate recording only when movement is detected nearby. The system includes buffered pre- and post-impact recording, meaning it captures footage from before and after a detected event.
Thinkware has pitched this as a practical solution for vehicles parked outdoors in Australian conditions, where heat and prolonged sun exposure can affect both battery life and hardware performance. The device includes a high-temperature protection feature designed to manage thermal stress.
Modular Design Offers LTE And Interior Camera Options
The U3000 Pro follows a modular approach, allowing drivers to configure the system based on their requirements. The base unit includes GPS tracking and dual-band Wi-Fi, with support for the Thinkware Connected app.
For users who want remote access, an optional LTE module enables cloud-based monitoring through the Thinkware Connected service. This includes real-time impact notifications, remote live view, vehicle location tracking and access to recorded footage through the mobile app.
Each LTE module ships with a USIM card and a complimentary Connected service plan covering the first three years. The first month provides access to the Premium Plan, after which the service automatically drops to the Basic Plan for the remaining period. The service ends after three years with no auto-renewal, though users can upgrade to Premium at any time through an in-app purchase.
The LTE module requires its own dedicated USIM card. Wi-Fi hotspots and mobile tethering are not supported for the Connected service.

Aimed At Personal, Fleet And Rideshare Users
Thinkware has positioned the U3000 Pro across multiple market segments, including private vehicle owners, commercial fleet operators and rideshare drivers.

The Thinkware U3000 Pro will be available across Australia through automotive retailers including Supercheap Auto, Autobarn, Repco and JB Hi-Fi, as well as authorised online partners. Pricing was not disclosed at the time of announcement.
