Surprisingly Useful AI Article Enhancements
Sony has launched the PXW-Z300, a new flagship handheld XDCAM camcorder featuring 1/2-inch 4K 3-CMOS Exmor R sensors and a dedicated Ai processing unit. The new model targets news, live events, corporate, and documentary production, and is expected to be available from September 2025.
The launch brings an expanded set of professional tools for content creators, including enhanced networking capabilities, improved subject tracking and the ability to embed digital authenticity data directly into video files.
Camera Designed For Real-Time Production Needs
Sony said the PXW-Z300 is engineered to meet the demands of modern content production environments. The device combines a 17x optical zoom lens with manual control rings, electronic variable ND filter, and new LCD arm features for improved operational flexibility.
Anthony Kable, CCS Group Manager at Sony Australia, said the new camcorder is tailored to help content producers manage fast-paced workflows with reliable technology.
“This latest camcorder has new enhancements, including content authenticity capabilities, that will be very beneficial for those in the news and production industry, whether they’re capturing action-packed content, breaking stories or producing educational documentaries,” Kable said.
Support For Digital Signatures And Video Authenticity
The PXW-Z300 is the first camcorder to support embedded digital signatures in video content. The feature supports the C2PA standard and is aimed at addressing industry demand for authentication in video production.
This capability allows producers and newsrooms to verify the integrity of recorded footage, offering traceability in an era of growing concern around manipulated content.
Ai Subject Recognition And Flexible LCD Monitoring
The PXW-Z300 includes a built-in Ai processor that enables real-time recognition of human subjects based on facial features, eye position, posture and skeletal structure. Autofocus performance remains stable even when subjects turn away or wear face coverings.
The device also supports automatic framing that adjusts the camera view to keep the subject centred.
For monitoring, the camcorder features a 3.5-inch LCD screen with roughly 2.76 million dots and high brightness, improving usability in bright outdoor conditions. The new flexible LCD arm offers multiple viewing angles and placement positions for various shooting styles, including shoulder, waist-level and self-recording.
Enhanced Connectivity For Field Use
Network functions have been expanded with support for live streaming and remote transfers over 5G, Wi-Fi and LAN. The PXW-Z300 is compatible with standard streaming protocols such as RTMP, RTMPS and SRT.
Footage can be sent directly to cloud services like Sony’s Ci Media Cloud, or to local storage systems, allowing editing to start during capture. The camcorder also supports HEVC encoding for proxy workflows, enabling more efficient handling of compressed video files.
Sony has also added segmented recording and clip transfer functions, removing the need for physical media removal in the field and streamlining post-production.
Recording Formats And Look Profiles
The camcorder supports a range of broadcast and cinema-style formats including MPEG HD422, XAVC Intra, XAVC Long and MP4 proxies. It also features look profiles such as S-Cinetone, ITU709 and HLG presets, in addition to support for custom 3D LUTs.
Four-channel audio recording is supported via XLR inputs and the Multi Interface shoe, with future updates expected to expand proxy audio recording.

Remote Monitoring And App Integration
The PXW-Z300 is compatible with Sony’s “Monitor & Control” mobile app, which enables camera control and angle adjustments from smartphones or tablets. This integration supports multi-camera shooting setups for field teams requiring agility during live or rapid-turnaround production.
The device is scheduled to be showcased at the Beijing International Radio, TV & Film Exhibition 2025 (BIRTV). More product information is available at Sony’s product page.
