Samsung took the stage at IFA 2024, marking 100 years of the conference and unveiling its latest advancements in Ai technology. The event focused on Samsung’s ongoing efforts to make Ai accessible to everyone, aiming to integrate these innovations seamlessly into daily life.

At the heart of Samsung’s presentation was the theme “Ai For All,” a vision that pushes to democratise Ai and ensure that it benefits users in practical ways. Benjamin Braun, Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Europe, emphasised this during his speech.

“Since our presentation last year, discussions around Ai have expanded significantly,” said Braun. “At Samsung, we are committed to making Ai simpler and more accessible. Our goal is to give consumers products that help them focus on the things that matter to them. Ai should act like helping hands, enhancing lives rather than complicating them.”

Galaxy Ai

Samsung’s Ai For All strategy is reflected in a broad range of products, from mobile devices to home entertainment systems and appliances. By the end of 2024, Samsung expects 200 million Galaxy devices to be equipped with Ai capabilities.

Central to this approach is the SmartThings ecosystem, which connects over 500 million devices globally. This allows users to remotely control Ai-enabled Samsung products, whether turning off the heating or managing home appliances while away. SmartThings makes it easier for users to take control of their environment, whether they’re looking for more sustainable living or simply aiming to stay connected.

Despite the growing use of Ai, research commissioned by Samsung shows that only 15 per cent of consumers fully understand how Ai can be integrated into their daily lives. Yet, 66 per cent of people are searching for ways to create more time in their schedules. Samsung sees this as a clear opportunity for Ai to improve life.

The latest operating system upgrade, One UI 6.1.1, expands Ai possibilities on devices such as the Galaxy S24, Z Fold5, and Flip5. This update includes new apps like Sketch to Image, allowing users to visualise their ideas through images generated from simple drawings. Another feature, Portrait Studio, offers more personalised avatars for online use.

Entertainment Ai

Samsung continues to develop Ai technologies that enhance entertainment experiences. At IFA 2024, Samsung introduced the Premiere 7 and 9 Projectors, designed for those who want high-quality home entertainment.

The Premiere 7 and 9 projectors deliver 4K resolution and immersive audio on screens up to 130 inches. Both models come with Ai-powered technology, including Upscaling, which enhances content to 4K, and Vision Booster, which adjusts brightness and contrast for optimal viewing in different lighting conditions. These projectors aim to transform living spaces into home cinemas with advanced technology.

Samsung also showcased innovations in its televisions. Tizen OS, the operating system that has powered millions of Samsung smart TVs since 2015, will now receive upgrades for seven years, starting with 2024 models. This will keep consumers up to date with the latest features and improve connectivity between devices.

The Neo QLED 8K QN9000D TV, introduced at IFA, comes equipped with the NQ 8 Ai Gen 3 processor. With 512 neural networks, this processor offers enhanced sound and picture quality, upscaling content to 8K for sharper and smoother visuals.

Samsung also announced new partnerships in its Art Store, including collaborations with Finnish design house Marimekko and artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Additionally, a collection of works by Belgian surrealist René Magritte will be available for users to display on their Samsung TVs, further integrating art into everyday life.

Ai Sustainability

Samsung is committed to using Ai to promote sustainability. As part of its Net Zero by 2050 mission, the company focuses on improving energy efficiency in its products, whether through Ai-powered appliances like refrigerators and washing machines or the SmartThings Eco System, which helps reduce energy consumption.

Katharina Mayer, Head of LifeStyle Lab Europe, highlighted how these innovations contribute to the company’s sustainability goals. “We believe Ai is a force for good, enabling us to take better care of the planet and each other,” said Mayer.

At IFA, Samsung revealed the rollout of its Bespoke Ai Heat Pump Combo across Australia and Europe. This all-in-one washer and dryer reduces energy consumption by up to 60 per cent during the wash cycle and 20 per cent during drying, thanks to Ai Energy Mode. The appliance also features heat pump technology, which dries clothes quickly and efficiently at lower temperatures.

The SmartThings ecosystem continues to lead in energy monitoring and efficiency. SmartThings Away Mode, for example, automatically turns off lights or TVs when no one is in the room, helping to reduce energy waste.
