Roadhound and Moorup are rolling out a national trade-in and trade-up program for technology products, including smartphones and tablets. The initiative is set to provide independent telco and electronics retailers, including those in rural and regional areas, with access to device upgrade solutions.
Moorup will design and manage the platform, handling trade-in processing, reconditioning, and resale. The program is expected to support customer retention, increase foot traffic, and open new revenue streams for retailers while also contributing to sustainability efforts. It will also drive sales for vendor partners such as Samsung by making device upgrades more accessible.
Roadhound will distribute the platform across Australia’s independent reseller channel, which currently lacks a structured trade-in and trade-up solution.
Customers with older devices not covered by existing trade-in programs will be able to return them and receive reimbursement. These devices will be refurbished and distributed to developing nations to improve digital access or repurposed through government procurement programs.

“This partnership strengthens the trade-in ecosystem across Australia, making it easier for customers to upgrade, supporting vendor partners like Samsung, and promoting a more sustainable approach to device upgrades,” said Ben Sharma, Managing Director of Roadhound. “By providing a seamless trade-in solution, we’re helping retailers drive sales, retain customers, and contribute to reducing e-waste.”
Sharma highlighted the importance of the initiative for regional retailers. “We are particularly excited about the enhancements it will offer our regional retail partners and their ability to get older devices sitting in homes back into circulation.”
The platform is set to launch in Q2 2025, offering retailers an efficient and user-friendly system to facilitate trade-ins and enhance consumer engagement.
“With Roadhound’s 40-year industry presence and deep relationships with thousands of independent retailers across Australia, this partnership allows us to bring a best-in-class trade-in solution to businesses that may not have had access to structured programs before,” said Brett Burgess, CEO of Moorup. “Together, we’re helping retailers stay competitive, supporting strong upgrade cycles for vendors like Samsung, and advancing sustainability through a circular economy for mobile devices.”
