Surprisingly Useful AI Article Enhancements

Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon X2 Plus at CES 2026, expanding its Snapdragon X Series with a new chip aimed at Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs. The announcement builds on Qualcomm’s push into Ai-capable computing and follows the debut of Snapdragon X Elite last year.
The X2 Plus targets productivity-focused users, content creators and mainstream consumers, offering performance improvements, longer battery life and support for on-device Ai workloads. Qualcomm says the first laptops using the new platform are expected to arrive in the first half of 2026.
Ai At The Centre Of The Experience

Snapdragon X2 Plus is built around the third generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU and an integrated Hexagon NPU that delivers up to 80 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of Ai processing power. The chip is designed to support on-device generative Ai models and new agentic workflows, aligning with Microsoft’s broader Copilot+ strategy.
“Modern professionals and creators want to do more, create more and push the limits of generative Ai and all-day performance,” said Kedar Kondap, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Computing and Gaming at Qualcomm Technologies.
“Snapdragon X2 Plus delivers the power, efficiency and intelligence to surpass their ambitions, making each experience more responsive and personal.”
The NPU’s 80 TOPS output puts it in the upper range of consumer-grade Ai processors and enables local execution of tasks that would typically rely on cloud services. That includes voice assistants, image editing and real-time language translation, all performed on-device.
Performance Gains And Connectivity Options
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon X2 Plus provides up to 35 per cent higher single-core CPU performance compared to its predecessor, while using 43 per cent less power. The company has not disclosed base clock speeds or core configurations, but the chip is built on the same Oryon CPU architecture as the flagship Snapdragon X Elite.
The platform supports Wi-Fi 7 and optional 5G connectivity, and includes Snapdragon Guardian security features for hardware-based data protection.
The company claims that laptops powered by the X2 Plus will offer “multi-day battery life,” although no specific duration was cited. Actual performance and battery life will depend on how OEMs configure their devices.
Positioning In The Snapdragon X Series
Snapdragon X2 Plus slots in below the X Elite, which remains Qualcomm’s highest-performance chip for Windows laptops. The Plus model is expected to feature in more affordable devices while still supporting Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC certification and Ai workloads.
Qualcomm has been promoting its Snapdragon X Series as a competitive alternative to traditional x86 platforms from Intel and AMD, focusing on power efficiency, integrated Ai acceleration and mobile-friendly form factors.
The company has also worked closely with Microsoft to optimise Windows 11 for Arm-based silicon, with Copilot+ devices marking a new category of PCs tailored for Ai-enhanced experiences.
Availability And Outlook
Qualcomm said select OEM partners would begin shipping devices based on Snapdragon X2 Plus in the first half of 2026, but did not name any specific brands. The company showcased the platform at its CES booth in Las Vegas and released a product brief outlining its key specifications.
The X2 Plus announcement comes amid growing competition in the Ai PC segment, with Intel, AMD and Apple all promoting new silicon designed to support on-device inference and generative workloads.
With Snapdragon X2 Plus, Qualcomm is attempting to bring its Ai-first approach to a wider audience, focusing on thin-and-light laptops, hybrid workers and users seeking longer battery life with native support for emerging Ai features.
