Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, describing it as the company’s fastest mobile system-on-a-chip to date. The new processor is aimed at flagship smartphones and is expected to power devices from leading global brands launching in the coming days.

The platform builds on Qualcomm’s Oryon CPU architecture and introduces performance upgrades across processing, graphics and Ai.

Upgraded Mobile Performance

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 features the third-generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU, which the company said boosts performance by 20 per cent compared to the previous generation.

A new Adreno GPU architecture is designed to improve graphics performance by 23 per cent, while the Hexagon NPU has been enhanced to deliver a 37 per cent performance increase in Ai workloads.

Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of mobile handsets at Qualcomm, said the new platform continues the company’s focus on blending efficiency with advanced features.

“With Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, you are at the centre of your mobile experience. It enables personalised Ai agents to see what you see, hear what you hear and think with you in real time,” Patrick said.

Ai On Device

Qualcomm is positioning the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 as a foundation for agentic Ai on smartphones. The company said the platform supports multimodal Ai models that can process audio, video and sensor data directly on the device.

This enables Ai assistants to provide recommendations, automate tasks and adapt to user behaviour without sending data to the cloud, preserving privacy while reducing latency.

Creative Tools

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 introduces support for the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec, which allows professional-grade video recording and editing directly on mobile devices.

Qualcomm said the platform’s Ai-powered camera features are designed to provide greater flexibility for creators, including improved post-production control and enhanced image quality in varied conditions.

Global OEM Support

The new processor will appear in flagship smartphones from major manufacturers including Samsung, Sony, Xiaomi, OPPO, OnePlus and Asus ROG, as well as brands such as Honor, Nubia, realme, REDMI, vivo and ZTE.

Qualcomm confirmed that new devices featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will be launched in the coming days.
