Surprisingly Useful AI Article Enhancements
Qscan has rolled out Carpl.ai across its national network, marking one of the first large-scale, fully embedded Ai marketplace integrations in the Australian imaging sector.
Ai Integrated Into Clinical Workflows
The Brisbane-based provider, which operates more than 80 clinics and performs over 1.5 million scans annually, has integrated Carpl.ai directly into its Intelerad PACS environment.
The move allows Qscan radiologists to access and validate Ai algorithms from within their existing workflow. Early use includes support for Australia’s National Lung Cancer Screening Program.
Qscan Chief Executive Officer, Gary Shepherd, said the integration has already improved productivity.
“Qscan is impressed by Carpl’s Ai platform. Their approach allows us to validate Ai algorithms before using them through a customised viewer that is deeply integrated with PACS. We are currently using Carpl for the Lung Cancer Screening program and are seeing better radiologist productivity and outcomes,” Shepherd said.
Partnership With Intelerad
The initiative builds on Qscan’s long-term relationship with Intelerad, which supplies enterprise imaging software to health systems globally.
Cemil Browne, Vice President and General Manager Oceania at Intelerad, said embedding Ai directly into radiologist workflows was central to improving outcomes.
“This three-way collaboration ensures Qscan’s radiologists can access best-in-class Ai tools directly within the Intelerad environment,” Browne said. “The result is faster, more accurate diagnoses and smoother patient throughput.”
Carpl.ai’s Role
For Carpl.ai, the deployment represents a step towards broader adoption of workflow-integrated Ai in radiology.
Chief Executive Officer, Vidur Mahajan, said the company co-designed the solution with Qscan’s RadX group and ensured compliance with the National Lung Cancer Screening Program guidelines.
“Our teams delivered it in three months,” Mahajan said. “The program has been a great opportunity to help Australian radiologists with Ai models that directly support national health priorities.”
Carpl.ai operates what it describes as the world’s largest radiology Ai marketplace, offering more than 200 models across multiple use cases. The platform allows hospitals and imaging groups to test, benchmark and deploy Ai through a single interface that integrates with existing PACS and RIS systems.
Real-World Deployment
Industry analysts have long described Ai in radiology as being stuck in pilot projects. The Qscan implementation signals a shift towards adoption at scale, with interoperability and workflow-native design seen as key enablers.
Qscan said it views the technology as part of its commitment to patient care and clinical excellence. Its 150 radiologists already use advanced technology such as 3T MRI and PET-CT, and the integration of Ai is seen as the next step in modernising practice.
