Surprisingly Useful AI Article Enhancements
Adobe has expanded the Photoshop beta with new generative tools, bringing Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Image Model and Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext [Pro] alongside its Firefly models. The company said the update will give creators more options for generating and refining images directly inside Photoshop.
Multi-Model Integration
The new release places external models into Photoshop’s Generative Fill tool. Adobe said the update lets users generate multiple variations, select the most suitable result and refine it using Photoshop’s editing features.
“By combining the power of Adobe Photoshop with a choice of leading generative models, we’re giving creators more control without breaking their workflow,” Adobe said in a statement.
The Gemini 2.5 Flash Image Model, also called Nano Banana, is designed for stylised elements, graphics and imaginative details. FLUX.1 Kontext [Pro] focuses on contextual accuracy, perspective and environmental consistency. Adobe’s Firefly models remain the option for commercially safe, production-ready images.
Workflow Flexibility
The integration means users can generate quick edits or new elements with prompts and then refine results with Photoshop’s layers, masks and adjustments. Adobe said this reduces the need to switch between applications.
For example, a poster designer could use Gemini 2.5 Flash Image to drop in stylised props before applying Smart Objects and blend modes to finish the composition. A retail product mockup could be enhanced with FLUX.1 Kontext [Pro], generating shelves and signage in correct perspective so packaging appears naturally placed.
Robin Rombach, Chief Executive and co-founder of Black Forest Labs, said the collaboration would broaden access to the company’s research.
“I am excited to see our work come to life in Photoshop with FLUX.1 Kontext [Pro]. Our mission has always been to push the boundaries of generative visual Ai and put that capability into the hands of creators,” he said.
Use Cases
Adobe said the new tools aim to support varied creative needs. A portrait photographer, for instance, might use Gemini 2.5 Flash Image to add floating elements to a shot before fine-tuning colours and contrasts in Photoshop. A commercial designer could use Firefly’s 2K resolution output for large-format printing with precision cropping and recomposition.
“No two projects are the same, which is why offering choice in models is key,” Adobe said.
Availability
Both Gemini 2.5 Flash Image and FLUX.1 Kontext [Pro] are now available through the Photoshop beta app. Users can update to access the new models and explore expanded generative options.
