Odina Industries Cuts Contractor Approval Times In Half With Avetta’s Compliance Platform

Sydney-based construction and infrastructure services company Odina Industries has halved its contractor approval times and reduced administrative workload by 30 per cent after deploying Avetta’s automated compliance management system.

The company, which delivers engineering and construction solutions for clients including BGIS, Ventia, Sydney Water, universities, councils and the Department of Defence, manages a hybrid workforce that fluctuates between internal teams and 40 to 50 subcontractors depending on project demands.

The compliance challenge

Odina’s project work is often start-and-stop in nature, meaning subcontractors need to be cleared and ready to work at short notice. Non-compliance in the construction sector carries serious consequences, from safety risks to financial penalties.

Before adopting Avetta, the company’s subcontractor compliance and onboarding processes were largely manual. That approach was time-consuming and left room for human error.

Steven Sundstrom, Director at Odina Industries, explained that compliance tooling was a priority from the outset.

“When we started the business, implementing Avetta was one of the first things we did,” Sundstrom remarked. “Avetta’s simplicity provides an extra level of security and assurance. Some jobs require us to be ready to work quickly. This includes approving contractors, uploading and reviewing documents and confirming compliance and other requirements.”

Speed when it matters

The platform’s automated workflows have allowed Odina to move from a manual review process to a traffic-light system where contractors are either cleared to work or flagged as non-compliant.

Sundstrom pointed to a recent example where the speed of the system proved critical.

“We had an instance where we needed something addressed urgently to get someone onsite, and Avetta helped us make this happen within 10 minutes,” he recalled. “Now, our workers are either ‘green’ or they’re ‘red’. We can move quickly and efficiently with 24/7 access to information we can rely on.”

Local support as a differentiator

Odina has also benefited from Avetta’s local support services in the APAC region, which Sundstrom described as a factor in keeping operations running smoothly.

“Having a local support team that understands our industry makes a huge difference. It’s helped us keep things simple and focus on getting our people and partners ready for work,” he added.

“We’re proud to be part of the Avetta network, knowing we’re among a network of businesses that take safety seriously and embed it into their daily operations. As we continue to grow, Avetta’s automated system will make life easier for our workers, clients and subcontractors.”

Freeing up time for higher-value work

The 30 per cent reduction in administrative work has come largely through automation of prequalification and documentation management workflows. Avetta’s integration with Odina’s existing systems has created a more unified process, allowing the team to redirect time toward strategic tasks.

Luke Boyle, VP of Operations, APAC, at Avetta, described the partnership as a reflection of Odina’s commitment to safety culture.

“Odina is an organisation that truly lives and breathes safety, and we’re proud to have worked alongside them to ensure its team can act out these values every day, on and off site,” Boyle commented. “By providing Odina with Avetta’s system to monitor compliance and manage a continually flexing and hybrid workforce of employees and subcontractors, we’ve been able to increase the team’s efficiency and productivity.”

Boyle noted the efficiency gains should position Odina for further growth.

“We’re looking forward to watching Odina grow now that they can dedicate more time and focus on strategic initiatives whilst still maintaining the highest safety and compliance standards,” he added.
