NetApp has celebrated 25 years in Australia with the launch of new products aimed at advancing Ai innovation, cyber resilience and cloud transformation.

Speaking at the company’s anniversary event, Mark Fioretto, Area Vice President and Managing Director of NetApp in Australia and New Zealand, said the milestone reflects the company’s deep local roots and ongoing collaboration with customers and partners.

“As we mark 25 years of operation of NetApp in Australia, we are proud of the innovations we co-created together with our customers, the strong partnerships forged and the dedicated NetApp team we have built,” Fioretto said. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to our presence in the Australian market and will continue to focus on delivering value, driving new innovations and putting our customers and our people at the centre of everything we do.”

Expanding The Enterprise Data Platform

At the NetApp Insight 2025 conference in Las Vegas, the company unveiled several new products and partnerships designed to strengthen its enterprise-grade data platform.

Among them is NetApp AFX, a disaggregated all-flash storage system designed for demanding Ai workloads. The system integrates with both on-premises and cloud environments, offering robust data management and built-in cyber resilience.

NetApp also introduced NetApp AI Data Engine (AIDE), a tool that gives organisations a global view of their data estate. The platform enables faster data discovery and curation for generative Ai applications and ensures data security with built-in guardrails that follow data throughout its lifecycle.

For cyber protection, NetApp Ransomware Resilience has replaced the company’s earlier Ransomware Protection service. The updated tool simplifies ransomware detection and recovery while introducing Ai-driven breach detection capabilities that monitor for anomalous behaviour across user activity and file systems.

Local Partnerships And Investments

Fioretto said NetApp’s local partnerships have been key to its success over the past quarter century. The company has worked with Fujitsu and NEC since its arrival in Australia and continues to collaborate on data infrastructure and transformation projects.

In 2022, NetApp acquired Canberra-based open source data company Instaclustr, and in 2023 it launched the $2 million Open Source Institute (OpenSI) with the University of Canberra and the ACT Government to develop new technology skills and foster innovation.

“Through our partnerships and investments in initiatives like OpenSI, we’re supporting Australia’s digital future and preparing the next generation of technology leaders,” Fioretto said.

Focus On Security And Sustainability

NetApp’s ongoing research has focused on ransomware resilience, though the company acknowledges that no detection or prevention system can guarantee complete safety. The company said its technology offers an “important additional layer of defence” and has achieved a high degree of detection against certain encryption-based ransomware attacks.

Beyond security, NetApp continues to align its operations with sustainability goals, developing energy-efficient infrastructure and supporting customers in managing data more efficiently across hybrid and multicloud environments.

Data Infrastructure For The Ai Era

Founded more than three decades ago, NetApp describes itself as an “Intelligent Data Infrastructure company,” helping enterprises turn data into a driver of innovation and resilience. Its data platform connects and protects data across workloads and cloud environments, powered by NetApp ONTAP and enhanced by automation tools like AFX and AIDE.

“Data needs to be ready to defend against threats, ready to power Ai, and ready to drive the next breakthrough,” Fioretto said. “That’s what we’re building our next 25 years around.”

NetApp’s unified platform, embedded natively across major public clouds, is designed to help enterprises run any workload with consistent performance and governance, free from vendor lock-in.
