Lenovo has named Sumir Bhatia as its first Chief Commercial Officer for the Asia Pacific region, creating a new role that consolidates the company’s enterprise sales, solution sales, channel and alliances functions under a single leadership position.

Bhatia, who has spent the past decade leading Lenovo’s Infrastructure Solutions Group business across Asia Pacific, will head the newly established commercial organisation. He will continue to report to Amar Babu, President of Asia Pacific at Lenovo.

The appointment signals a structural shift in how Lenovo intends to go to market across the region, bringing together commercial functions that previously operated across separate business groups.

Consolidating Commercial Functions

The new commercial organisation is designed to align Lenovo’s AI offerings and commercial capabilities across its various business groups, teams and markets. The company indicated the structure is aimed at delivering what it calls Hybrid AI solutions to commercial customers across the region.

Lenovo’s Asia Pacific footprint covers Australia, Hong Kong SAR China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan and Southeast Asia.

The region represents a varied landscape for technology adoption, with diverse levels of digital maturity and evolving infrastructure across its constituent markets. Lenovo indicated the appointment reflects an opportunity to deliver end-to-end solutions that address a wide range of customer needs across those differing markets.

A Decade At Lenovo’s Infrastructure Business

Bhatia is a long-standing figure within Lenovo’s Asia Pacific operations. His tenure leading the Infrastructure Solutions Group business has spanned a period of growth for that division across the region.

The move from infrastructure group leadership to a broader commercial role spanning all of Lenovo’s business groups suggests the company sees value in applying cross-divisional coordination to its sales and channel operations, particularly as it looks to push its AI product portfolio to enterprise and commercial buyers.

Leadership Changes In Asia Pacific

The appointment comes alongside a broader reshuffling of Lenovo’s Asia Pacific leadership team.

Ivan Cheung, Vice President and General Manager of Lenovo’s PCs and Smart Devices (PCSD) division and Chief Operating Officer in Asia Pacific, is set to retire in June 2026. Lenovo credited Cheung with contributing to the growth of its device business in the region over the course of his tenure.

Benjamin Yeh succeeded Cheung as Vice President and General Manager of PCSD for Asia Pacific in March 2026. Yeh brings more than two decades of industry experience to the role and will lead Lenovo’s PC and smart devices business through its next phase.

Regional Strategy Takes Shape

The combination of Bhatia’s commercial consolidation role and Yeh’s appointment to lead the devices business creates a clearer division of responsibilities within Lenovo’s Asia Pacific structure. Bhatia’s organisation will focus on the commercial go-to-market side – how Lenovo sells and partners across the region – while Yeh oversees the product-side leadership for the PCSD division.

For Lenovo’s channel partners and enterprise customers across Asia Pacific, the creation of a unified commercial organisation may simplify engagement with the vendor, particularly for deals that span multiple Lenovo product lines and services. Whether the structural change translates into tangible differences in how Lenovo operates in individual markets will become clearer as Bhatia settles into the role and begins shaping the new organisation.
