Kioxia’s RAID Offload Technology Wins Innovation Award

Surprisingly Useful AI Article Enhancements

Kioxia Corporation has announced that its RAID Offload on SSD technology has been awarded the ‘Best of Show’ in the ‘Most Innovative Technology’ category at the Future of Memory and Storage (FMS) 2024 event. The award highlights the significant impact of Kioxia’s advancements in the memory and storage industries.

Technological Achievement Recognised

Kioxia’s RAID Offload technology is designed to address the increasing demands on data protection as compute and storage technologies advance. Traditional methods of RAID and Erasure Coding (EC) are struggling to keep up with the rapid performance improvements seen in SSDs with each new generation. These challenges have necessitated new approaches to data protection in modern server and storage systems.

Jay Kramer, Chairman of the Awards Program and President of Network Storage Advisors Inc., spoke about the recognition: “We are pleased to acknowledge Kioxia’s RAID Offload data protection technology with this award. This achievement underscores Kioxia’s ability to tackle critical industry challenges through innovation.”

Addressing Critical Challenges

As storage technology evolves, so do the challenges associated with protecting data. Traditional software and hardware RAID and Erasure Coding methods are increasingly unable to match the pace of SSD performance improvements. The growing gap between storage capabilities and protection methods has created a need for more efficient solutions.

Kioxia’s SSDs with RAID Offload technology provide a standards-based, host-orchestrated solution designed to offload RAID parity compute. This approach allows for the reallocation of critical host resources such as CPU, memory, and cache, which can now be directed towards accelerating primary applications. The result is a significant improvement in system performance, reduced costs, and enhanced power efficiency for server and storage systems.

A Leader in Memory Solutions

Kioxia has a long-standing history of innovation in memory technology. Originally part of Toshiba Corporation, Kioxia has been a key player in the development of NAND flash memory since its inception in 1987. Today, the company continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with memory solutions.

Kioxia’s commitment to innovation is reflected in its work on 3D flash memory technology, known as BiCS FLASH. This technology is shaping the future of storage across a wide range of applications, from advanced smartphones and PCs to automotive systems and data centers.

About Kioxia

Founded in April 2017 as a spin-off from Toshiba Corporation, Kioxia has quickly established itself as a leader in the memory solutions industry. The company focuses on the development, production, and sale of flash memory and solid-state drives (SSDs). Kioxia’s mission is to uplift the world through memory, providing products and services that offer choice and create value for both customers and society.

Kioxia’s innovative technologies continue to set new standards in the industry, and the recognition at FMS 2024 is a testament to the company’s ongoing efforts to address the challenges faced by modern data storage systems.
