Cinema group, Hoyts, has taken out a Mobile App award at the 2025 Australian Web Awards, recognising the technical and user-focused work behind its updated digital platform.

The app, launched six months ago, was developed in partnership with Chook Digital over an 18-month period and was awarded for its performance, design and user experience. Just two awards were given in the mobile app category, making the win a significant recognition for Hoyts.

The 2025 Australian Web Awards were held in Melbourne and highlight digital achievements across design, user experience and development. Hoyts’ mobile platform was selected from a competitive shortlist that included Bank of Queensland’s myBOQ and Endeavour Group’s Pub+.

Collaboration Across Teams

Hoyts Director of Information Technology, Adam Wrightson, said the win reflects the depth of collaboration between internal and external teams.

“This is a powerful validation of the work we’re doing to delight our customers and lead the way in digital innovation,” Wrightson said. “To take home one of only two mobile app awards is not just an honour, it’s a reflection of the talent across our teams.”

Wrightson credited Digital Team Lead Simone Fisher and Technical Team Lead, Geoff Henry, along with Chook Digital, for bringing both creativity and technical precision to the project.

“From our producers and testers to developers, every team member played a vital role,” he said. “Our partners at Chook Digital brought creativity and technical brilliance that truly set us apart.”

Designed For The Guest Experience

The app was designed with a focus on enhancing the guest experience. Features include watchlists, personalised alerts and member-only rewards. The aim was to extend the cinema experience to users’ mobile devices, allowing them to engage with the brand beyond the theatre.

The app also supports Hoyts Rewards, the company’s loyalty program, and integrates ticketing and promotional offers into one streamlined platform.

Ongoing Recognition

This win adds to the company’s record of digital awards. Hoyts was recognised last year with the Enterprise Website of the Year and Best in Show for SEO at the 2024 Australian Web Awards.

Hoyts’ ongoing investment in digital infrastructure is part of a wider strategy to drive engagement both inside and outside cinema venues.

The company’s app is available via the App Store and Google Play, with sign-in support for the Hoyts Rewards loyalty platform.
