Hotshot Transport Provider Harmon Cuts Onboarding Time With Avetta

Australian light freight operator Harmon Transportation has reported a 93 per cent increase in revenue and a 70 per cent reduction in onboarding time after overhauling its operations with supply chain compliance platform Avetta.

The 18-month transformation saw the company move away from paper-based processes and spreadsheets across its operations, finance, workplace health and safety (WHS) and technology systems. Harmon achieved the results without adding any administrative staff, and now operates at a 17 per cent profit margin.

A dangerous industry with compliance challenges

Harmon specialises in 24-hour urgent hotshot deliveries across the Australian mining industry. According to Safe Work Australia, truck driving is one of the most dangerous occupations in the country, with drivers consistently recording high rates of work-related injuries and fatalities over the past decade.

Drivers in the sector cover long distances through remote areas, contending with wildlife, fatigue and the logistical challenges of outback operations.

Before working with Avetta, Harmon relied on paper-based processes and spreadsheets. The company found these created inefficiencies that prevented it from scaling and planning for growth. A lack of WHS compliance also exposed the business to operational risks and limited its ability to service larger clients.

WHS overhaul unlocks accreditation

As part of the transformation, Harmon achieved Western Australia Heavy Vehicle Accreditation (WAHVA), a standard that demonstrates compliance with workplace safety requirements for heavy vehicle operations.

The accreditation has opened up new opportunities for the company to pursue contracts with higher-value clients who require that level of compliance assurance.

Harmon now uses Avetta alongside its own internal systems, enabling cross-referencing for data accuracy and flagging potential compliance issues. The business can quickly identify gaps or inaccuracies and either confirm its existing data or address missing information.

Speed of onboarding a key differentiator

Paul Konstek, CEO of Harmon, pointed to the speed of onboarding as a significant operational improvement.

“In the highly regulated logistics sector, spreadsheets and manual processes are a death sentence,” he explained. “Collaborating with Avetta was a gamechanger. We experienced strong bottom-line growth without needing to hire additional admin staff, which reflects the robust, reliable and efficient systems we now have in place.”

Konstek contrasted the experience with other systems he has encountered in the sector.

“When working with clients using other systems or their own bespoke systems, they are often not tailored for their industry or business, leading to a lot of back and forth simply to clarify what the questions mean,” he continued. “It wastes a lot of time. Instead, working with Avetta, we’re onboarding in 30 per cent of the time and getting our people moving faster.”
