Hitachi Vantara has secured the top three spots in the ENERGY STAR NVSS Disk Online 4 category for its storage solutions, with its Virtual Storage Platform One Block series taking first place. This achievement highlights the company’s focus on energy efficiency and sustainable innovation in the tech industry.

The newly launched Virtual Storage Platform One Block storage appliance earned ENERGY STAR certification for its performance and energy efficiency. The Virtual Storage Platform One Block 28 model achieved 538 IOPS per watt, followed by the Virtual Storage Platform One Block 26 with 409 IOPS per watt, and the Virtual Storage Platform E1090 with 368 IOPS per watt.

These rankings reflect a growing trend among businesses to enhance sustainability while maintaining performance. A recent survey of IT decision-makers showed that 68 per cent were concerned about the impact of Ai and machine learning (ML) on energy use and carbon footprints. Furthermore, 77 per cent of respondents believed that legacy data architectures were hindering their sustainability efforts.

Octavian Tanase, Hitachi Vantara’s Chief Product Officer, addressed these concerns, stating, “At Hitachi Vantara, we understand the growing importance of energy efficiency in today’s data-driven world. We are committed to helping our customers meet their performance needs while also reducing their environmental impact. Our Virtual Storage Platform One Block exemplifies this vision, delivering powerful, reliable, and eco-friendly solutions that drive value for our customers and reduce carbon emissions.”

Energy Efficiency and Performance in Storage Solutions

The Virtual Storage Platform One is designed with key features that enable organisations to consolidate workloads onto fewer systems, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting green data centre goals. The platform’s Dynamic Carbon Reduction technology reduces energy consumption by switching CPUs into eco-mode during low activity periods. Another energy-saving feature is “always on compression,” which switches from inline data reduction to post-processing, reducing energy usage and lowering CO2 emissions by as much as 30 to 40 per cent.

Businesses seeking to improve their sustainability efforts without compromising performance can benefit from these features, making the Virtual Storage Platform One a standout in the market.

Commitment to Sustainability

Hitachi Vantara’s dedication to sustainability extends beyond energy-efficient products. All its storage arrays have obtained Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP) certification under the SuMPO environmental labelling program. This certification ensures that greenhouse gas emissions per terabyte per year are transparently measured and verified by third parties.

The ENERGY STAR certification further underscores the company’s energy-efficient products, recognising their IOPS per watt. This accomplishment aligns with Hitachi Vantara’s broader commitment to sustainable innovation and responsible corporate practices.

Hitachi Vantara has also been recognised for its sustainability leadership with a Gold Medal rating from EcoVadis, a global leader in assessing corporate social responsibility and sustainability. This recognition reflects the company’s efforts to integrate environmental responsibility across its operations.

Decades-Long Commitment to Reducing Carbon Footprints

For over a decade, Hitachi Vantara has focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the lifecycle of its storage arrays, from material procurement to production, logistics, use, and disposal. The company has continually sought to improve the environmental impact of its products, earning CFP certification under the SuMPO program as part of this commitment.

By continuously innovating and refining its approach to sustainability, Hitachi Vantara remains at the forefront of delivering environmentally responsible solutions to its customers.
