Epson’s Indonesian printer manufacturing site has been granted Platinum recognition under the Responsible Business Alliance Validated Assessment Program, following audits carried out by RBA-approved independent third-party firms.
The facility, PT. Indonesia Epson Industry, is an overseas production site of the Epson Group and was established in 1994.
What the Platinum tier requires
Platinum is the top recognition level in the Validated Assessment Program, or VAP, and carries a specific threshold.
It is granted to factories that record a final VAP score of 200 and close out all Priority, Major and Minor findings raised during the audit.
That last condition is the one that tends to separate recognition levels in practice, since it requires remediation of every issue identified rather than a passing aggregate score.
Auditing against the RBA Code of Conduct
The assessments measure compliance with the RBA Code of Conduct across labour practices, health and safety, environmental standards and ethics.
They are performed by independent, RBA-certified third-party organisations rather than by the manufacturer or its parent company.
The distinction matters for how the result is read externally. Third-party validated audits sit differently to self-assessment when procurement teams review supplier disclosures, particularly for buyers working through their own supply chain reporting obligations.
A voluntary program Epson opted into
Epson joined the RBA in April 2019 and has since put its primary production sites through VAP audits voluntarily.
The company reports that a number of its production sites across Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, China and the Philippines have completed VAP assessments and reached Platinum recognition.
Executive Officer and General Administrative Manager of Epson’s Production Management Division, Akifumi Takei, tied the outcome to the group’s long-term corporate vision.
“Epson places a strong emphasis on sustainability as a foundation for creating the social value envisioned in its long-term corporate vision, ENGINEERED FUTURE 2035,” he stated.
Takei pointed to the company’s membership of the alliance as the basis for operating in compliance with the RBA Code of Conduct.
“By participating in the RBA’s VAP audits, Epson will continue to verify that its products are manufactured with due consideration for human rights and the global environment,” he continued.
Where the site list is published
Epson maintains a public list of group production sites that have achieved Platinum and other recognition levels through the VAP, available at corporate.epson.

The disclosure covers the wider manufacturing footprint rather than the Indonesian site alone, which gives buyers a route to check the audit status of the specific facility producing a given product line.
