Surprisingly Useful AI Article Enhancements
Dyson has expanded its hair care range with the Supersonic Travel, a smaller and lighter version of its full-sized Supersonic hair dryer designed for use on the go.
The Supersonic Travel is 32 per cent smaller and 25 per cent lighter than the original Supersonic, making it compact enough to fit inside handbags, carry-ons and cabin luggage.
Engineered for portability
James Dyson, Founder and Chief Engineer, described the product as a ground-up redesign rather than a simple reduction in size.
“We didn’t just shrink a dryer, we re-engineered it for travel. The Supersonic Travel delivers high-performance styling while protecting hair from extreme heat. It is built for performance, portability and hair health,” he explained.
The device features automatic voltage adaptation, meaning it adjusts to different electrical standards depending on the country of use. Dyson claims the dryer maintains full performance regardless of location.
Heat control and hair health
Like its full-sized counterpart, the Supersonic Travel uses Dyson’s intelligent heat control system, which measures airflow temperature 100 times per second.
The company points to research showing that excessive heat can degrade keratin, weakening hair and leading to breakage. Conventional dryers often rely on uncontrolled heat, which can cause damage over time.
The Supersonic Travel’s airflow has been engineered to dry hair quickly and evenly while keeping temperatures within a range intended to reduce damage.
Attachment compatibility
One feature Dyson is highlighting is attachment compatibility. The Supersonic Travel is the only travel-sized dryer that can share attachments with the existing Dyson Supersonic and Dyson Supersonic Nural.
The device ships with a Styling Concentrator attachment. Other attachments including the Diffuser, Wide tooth comb, Smoothing nozzle, Flyaway smoother and Gentle air attachment will be available separately.
Travel hair care companion
Dyson is also pairing the dryer with its Omega leave-in conditioning spray mini, a travel-sized formulation designed to protect hair in changing climates.
The spray uses what Dyson calls its Oli7 blend – a combination of seven omega-rich oils including sunflower oil grown on Dyson farms. The company says it delivers nourishment, reduces frizz and protects against humidity.
Styling on the move
Irinel de Leon, Global Styling Ambassador for Dyson, pointed to growing demand for practical travel styling options.
“We’re seeing a rise in low-maintenance, high-impact travel styles – like the ‘air-sculpted wave’. Using the new Supersonic Travel dryer, you can create your preferred style with maximum shine,” de Leon noted.
“It’s the kind of style that looks intentional but effortless, ideal for the modern traveller.”

A decade of hair science
Dyson has spent over a decade developing hair care technology, starting with the launch of the original Supersonic in 2016. That device placed the motor in the handle for improved balance, a departure from conventional hair dryer design.
Since then, the company has released the Airwrap, Corrale, Airstrait and Supersonic Nural, along with its Chitosan, Omega and Amino hair care formulations.
The Supersonic Nural added a Scalp Protect Mode that adjusts air temperature to protect sensitive scalps, an area Dyson says is particularly relevant for travellers exposed to changes in temperature and humidity.
The scalp contains approximately 100,000 follicles and can be sensitive to environmental shifts, according to Dyson’s research.
Availability and pricing
The Dyson Supersonic Travel hair dryer is available in Australia from today, retailing at $449 with the Styling Concentrator attachment included.
Consumers can try the device at Dyson Demo Stores and at select retail partners.
