The DJI Ronin series, known for simplifying high-quality fluid footage for creative professionals, has won a 2024 Emmy Award for Engineering, Science & Technology. The award, presented by the Television Academy, recognises the impact DJI’s camera stabilisation systems have had on the film and television industry over the past decade.
Recognising a Decade of Innovation
Paul Pan, Senior Product Line Manager at DJI, reflected on the recognition, especially with the award coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Ronin series.
“Receiving this Emmy Award is an honour, particularly as we mark ten years since the launch of DJI Ronin,” Pan said. “For a decade, we’ve been providing filmmakers around the world with smooth and reliable footage.”
The Ronin series launched ten years ago and has since become essential for filmmakers and videographers aiming to capture stable and smooth footage, even in challenging environments.
Transforming Filmmaking
DJI drew on its gimbal technology, initially used in its popular camera drones, to develop the Ronin series. The stabilisation systems have redefined modern filmmaking, allowing creators to capture shots previously considered impossible.
The Ronin’s technology has been featured on high-profile productions, including Emmy Award-winning TV shows like Ted Lasso and The Handmaid’s Tale, as well as films such as Nomadland and The Whale.
The system’s modular design allows for flexibility in various shooting scenarios, making it a versatile tool for the industry. Features like Pan Follow, Lock Mode, and Point of View Mode enhance the ability to capture smooth footage while integrating seamlessly with wireless focus systems, monitors, and other accessories.
Evolving Technology with Ronin 4D
DJI continued to push the boundaries with the Ronin 4D, which introduces a Z-axis to the traditional three-axis gimbal system. This addition significantly reduces vertical camera shake and enhances the stability of the footage.
The Ronin 4D combines four-axis stabilisation with cinematic imaging capabilities, precision LiDAR focusing, and wireless transmission, providing filmmakers with a more advanced, cohesive tool.
The Ronin stabilisers reduce the need for cumbersome equipment like dolly tracks or Technocranes, streamlining production setups while maintaining high-quality footage.
Emmy Recognition
The 76th Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy Awards will honour DJI and other winners on October 23 at the Television Academy’s Saban Media Center in North Hollywood, California. This award highlights the ongoing influence DJI’s innovations have on the industry.
