DJI has unveiled the Mini 5 Pro, a compact drone that brings new imaging and flight features to its consumer lineup. The device introduces the first 1-inch sensor in a mini camera drone, along with an upgraded ActiveTrack system and enhanced flight safety tools.

DJI said the Mini 5 Pro is designed to give users professional-level imaging capabilities in a small and portable format.

Imaging Features

The Mini 5 Pro is equipped with a 50-megapixel 1-inch sensor aimed at improving performance in low-light conditions. It also introduces a 48mm Med-Tele mode with improved digital zoom resolution.

DJI has added portrait optimisation technology to improve brightness, contrast and skin tones in photos, seeking to deliver more natural results.

Video capabilities include 4K/60fps HDR with up to 14 stops of dynamic range, and 4K/120fps slow-motion recording. The drone supports 10-bit video using H.265 encoding, with maximum ISO increased to 12800 in standard colour modes and 3200 in D-Log M and HLG.

Camera Movement And Gimbal

The Mini 5 Pro introduces a 225° gimbal rotation for greater flexibility in camera movement. True vertical shooting is supported, meaning users can shoot content for social media platforms without cropping.

DJI has paired the gimbal with modes such as QuickShot Rotate, Timelapse, Spotlight and Waypoint Flight to simplify creative capture.

Flight Safety In Low Light

DJI has built a forward-facing LiDAR and multiple vision sensors into the Mini 5 Pro to enable what it calls nightscape omnidirectional sensing. This allows the drone to detect and avoid obstacles in low-light conditions and during return-to-home operations.

The drone can also memorise flight routes when sufficient light is available, enabling safe returns even without a satellite signal. Dual-band GNSS support improves positioning accuracy by connecting to more satellites.

Upgraded Tracking

ActiveTrack 360° has been improved with customisable tracking options, designed to better handle activities such as cycling or walking. DJI said the system balances speed, agility and safety when following subjects.

Intelligent Features

The Mini 5 Pro supports MasterShots, which provides camera movement templates, and QuickShots with modes including Dronie, Circle and Boomerang. Free Panorama stitching and Off-State QuickTransfer allow users to capture and share content more easily.

Off-State QuickTransfer enables file transfer speeds up to 100 MB/s via Wi-Fi 6, even while the drone is powered off.

Flight Time And Battery

The standard Intelligent Flight Battery delivers up to 36 minutes of flight time. DJI is also offering an Intelligent Flight Battery Plus, which can extend flights to 52 minutes.

Care Plans

DJI Care Refresh is available for the Mini 5 Pro. The plan covers accidental damage including flyaway, collisions and water damage, with up to two replacements in one year or four over two years, depending on the chosen plan.

Pricing And Availability

The Mini 5 Pro is available for order through DJI’s website and authorised retail partners. Pricing in Australia is:

  • DJI Mini 5 Pro: $1,119
  • DJI Mini 5 Pro Fly More Combo (DJI RC-N3): $1,419
