Databricks and OpenAI have entered into a multi-year partnership valued at $100 million to make OpenAI models available natively on the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform. The deal includes integration with Databricks’ flagship Ai product, Agent Bricks, and will extend to more than 20,000 customers globally.

Announced in Sydney on September 26, the partnership is positioned to give enterprises direct access to OpenAI’s latest models, including GPT-5, within their existing Databricks environments.

Enterprise-Ready Ai Apps And Agents

Databricks said the collaboration aims to help enterprises build Ai agents that analyse and act on data, automate workflows and deliver governed insights.

Building such systems typically requires complex data movement and integration, but the companies claim customers will now be able to use OpenAI models without additional setup. This includes guaranteed access to high-capacity processing.

The joint offering is expected to support applications in health, energy, financial services and software development, among other fields. Databricks pointed to use cases ranging from early disease detection to fraud prevention and application acceleration.

Executive Views

Databricks Co-founder and Chief Executive, Ali Ghodsi, said demand was being driven by enterprises wanting tailored Ai solutions.

“We’re seeing overwhelming demand from enterprise customers looking to build Ai apps and agents on their data, tailored to their unique business needs,” he said. “This partnership makes it easier for enterprises to securely leverage their data and OpenAI models at scale with best-in-class governance and performance.”

OpenAI Chief Operating Officer, Brad Lightcap, described the deal as a step towards simplifying enterprise adoption.

“Enterprise demand for frontier Ai is accelerating, and with Databricks, we’re making its deployment even simpler without compromising the high bar for performance and production,” he said. “Our partnership with Databricks brings our most advanced models to where secure enterprise data already lives, making it easier for businesses to experiment, deploy, and scale Ai agents with real impact.”

Mastercard Chief Ai And Data Officer, Greg Ulrich, added that the partnership aligns with the company’s focus on security and operational efficiency.

“At Mastercard, we are focused on delivering Ai solutions that make commerce safer, smarter, and more personalised,” he said. “Agentic solutions also make our internal operations stronger by automating processes and optimising performance across our systems. This partnership provides us the opportunity to build trusted Ai agents that harness the latest OpenAI models, delivered with the speed, security and scale of the Databricks platform.”

Partnership Features

The companies outlined several key elements:

  • Frontier Models On Enterprise Data: Customers can access OpenAI models directly on their enterprise data via SQL or API.

  • Dedicated High Capacity: Guaranteed high-capacity access across the latest OpenAI models.

  • Production-Ready Ai Agents: Agent Bricks includes evaluation tools to measure accuracy and optimise models for domain-specific use.

  • Unified Governance: The Unity Catalog provides end-to-end governance and responsible Ai controls.

  • Collaborative Innovation: Technical teams from both companies will work together to optimise models for enterprise use cases.

Broader Context

The partnership builds on existing collaboration where OpenAI already uses Databricks for Ai data processing to enhance ChatGPT. Databricks was also an early host of gpt-oss, OpenAI’s open-weight model.

Databricks and OpenAI will further discuss their plans at an event on November 11 (Americas) and November 12 (APJ/EMEA), featuring Ghodsi and OpenAI Chief Executive, Sam Altman.
