CyberPower has introduced its Ultra-Advanced Power Distribution Units (PDUs) for IT environments in Australia. The new PDUs are designed for server rooms and IT solutions in corporate, education, government and back-office settings. They feature reliable power distribution, a colour-configurable LCD display and real-time monitoring capabilities.

Supporting IT infrastructure

CyberPower Systems Oceania GM ANZ Robert Hartvigsen said the launch builds on the company’s existing product suite.

“CyberPower offers six types of PDU products, ranging from basic power distribution to advanced monitoring and management. These PDUs enhance the reliability and functionality of IT infrastructure, complementing solutions such as UPS systems and rack enclosures. The result is a reliable and cost-effective power supply,” Hartvigsen said.

A PDU is installed in a standard rack to distribute network power from a utility source or an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to multiple devices. Advanced models include Ethernet modules for integration with PowerPanel Power Management Software, providing real-time monitoring.

PowerPanel Software supports power management, system shutdown and energy monitoring. It is compatible with VMware ESXi, Citrix XenServer and Microsoft Hyper-V. The software includes dashboards, periodic reports, real-time power usage effectiveness (PUE) metrics and instant alerts.

Features aimed at ease of use

CyberPower’s PDUs come equipped with a multi-function LCD display that enables system management and monitoring. The display’s colour can be configured for easy identification of PDUs based on application. The hot-swappable design allows users to replace LCD panels without system downtime.

The PDUs are built to address heat and power overload issues common in data centres. The overload protection feature automatically cuts off power when limits are exceeded, preventing potential damage caused by overcurrent.

In high-temperature environments, the PDUs operate effectively between 45 and 60°C, ensuring system performance under challenging conditions.

Accurate and efficient power management

Hartvigsen highlighted the importance of reliable power monitoring as IT infrastructure expands.

“As a company grows, its power and IT equipment needs increase. It’s crucial to find a solution that can cater to rising demands while providing accurate power measurement. With the PUE metric being a key standard for data centres, advanced PDUs offer critical data and individual outlet metering to monitor energy efficiency,” he said.

The PDUs feature precise measurements of voltage, current and wattage, with an accuracy of ±1 per cent. Additionally, they include low power consumption and environmental sensors to monitor real-time temperature and humidity levels.
