In a move set to excite the creative DIY community, Cricut, has unveiled its latest offering, the Cricut Joy Xtra smart cutting machine. Slated for an Australian release on September 8, the same date as its global launch, the new machine is intended to serve aspiring makers, small businesses, and side hustlers keen to produce professional-grade custom items.
Recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) indicates a 3.5 per cent surge in Australians launching side hustles or taking on a second job, a trend driven by the rising cost of living. This device is poised to address the needs of this growing demographic.
The Cricut Joy Xtra is touted for its ability to cut, write, draw and foil, allowing users to craft projects such as full-colour stickers, custom cards, t-shirts and vinyl decals. Through the utilization of Cricut’s design platform, users can easily fashion unique upcycled décor, custom gear, merch and personalised gifts.
Designed with flexibility in mind, this machine is not only compact and portable but also showcases an appealing matte white finish, making it an attractive fixture whether at home, in the classroom, or in a professional setting.
One of its standout features is Print then Cut, facilitated by a built-in sensor. Users can craft vibrant, high-quality stickers, labels and various other custom items. The A4 material size compatibility is a nod to the convenience for users, allowing them to cut out images printed from any standard inkjet printer.
Ashish Arora, Cricut CEO, expressed the company’s intentions, stating, “Our mission with the Cricut platform is to inspire and empower makers. With over eight million members actively sharing their creations, we’re keen on fostering this sense of community and creativity.”
Nicola Dow Smith, Regional Head of Cricut, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the potential of the Cricut Joy Xtra to revolutionize branding for small businesses, and even for teachers aiming to customize learning resources.
The machine comes with a slew of new materials and accessories, including premium printables such as Printable Sticker Paper and Printable Vinyl. Further enhancing its appeal is the integration with Cricut Design Space, a hub where users can explore, create, and customize projects.
