CommBank has claimed the number one position on LinkedIn’s 2026 Top Companies list, a ranking of the 20 best workplaces in Australia for professionals seeking career growth.
ServiceNow and SAP rounded out the top three, with professional services, technology and enterprise organisations featuring prominently across the list.
The annual ranking, now in its 10th year, is powered by LinkedIn data analysing the career paths of millions of professionals. It highlights organisations investing in skills development, creating opportunities for career progression and growing their workforce.

Skills over job titles
This year’s list points to a shift in how career growth is being defined. Rather than focusing on job tenure alone, professionals are gravitating towards employers that offer clear pathways for skills development and internal mobility.
Brendan Wong, LinkedIn Career Expert, commented: “After 10 years of LinkedIn’s Top Companies list, what stands out is how much the idea of a ‘good job’ has evolved. Aussies are looking beyond job titles and salary to understand where they can build skills, stay relevant and continue progressing over time.”
“Across industries, the employers leading the way are those giving their people opportunities to keep learning, adapt to change and progress over time. In a job market that continues to evolve quickly, that focus on skills is becoming essential for long-term career growth.”
LinkedIn data shows that learning and development opportunities are a top consideration for Australian professionals when assessing both current and future career paths. Ninety per cent of Chief People Officers in Australia expect work to be organised around skills rather than traditional job titles as jobs continue to evolve.

How the list is compiled
LinkedIn’s Top Companies list ranks companies based on eight pillars that have been shown to lead to career progression. The ability to advance pillar tracks how employees get promoted both at their company and when they move to a new position externally, based on standardised job titles. Skills growth looks at how employees across the company are gaining skills while employed there.
Company stability tracks attrition over the past year as well as the percentage of employees that stay at the company for at least three years. External opportunity looks at recruiter outreach across employees at the company.
Company affinity tracks connection volume among employees, controlled for company size, as a measure of how supportive a company’s culture is. Gender diversity measures gender parity within a company and its subsidiaries.
Educational background examines the variety of educational attainment among employees, from no degree up to Ph.D. levels, reflecting a commitment to recruiting a wide range of professionals. Employee presence in the country measures the number of employees relative to other companies as a way of focusing on companies that provide a diverse work environment and more opportunities for career advancement and networking.
