New Zealand infrastructure company Citycare Property has reduced the time it takes to onboard new employees and improved the quality of its workforce data after deploying a data integration platform from Boomi and local partner Adaptiv.
The company, which provides building, maintenance and renewal services to central and local governments across New Zealand, had been running into problems with manual HR processes that were slow, lacked visibility and left room for data inconsistencies across its systems.
Days of work to get a new hire active
Citycare Property’s CIO, Adam Doocey, described the previous onboarding process as a significant time sink for the organisation.
“Onboarding a new hire, setting up their account, and getting them active in our systems used to eat up days of work,” Doocey explained. “Prior to doing the integrations, visibility into where someone was in the process wasn’t always straightforward.”
The company had implemented a new Human Resources Information System but needed a way to ensure employee data flowed consistently across its HR, payroll and IT platforms. Without that connectivity, staff moving through onboarding, role changes or offboarding would encounter delays and data mismatches between systems.
Bringing in Boomi and Adaptiv
Citycare Property engaged New Zealand-based consulting firm Adaptiv to identify and implement a solution. Adaptiv deployed Boomi’s Enterprise Platform, using its Data Hub and Integration capabilities to create a single, unified view of each employee across all of the company’s platforms.
Philip Durrant, Principal Consultant at Adaptiv, noted that the approach centred the integration around the employee record rather than around individual systems.
“We felt that Boomi, with its integration and master data capabilities, was a great fit for Citycare because it enabled us to put the employee at the centre of the integration,” Durrant remarked. “Use of the Boomi platform balanced the immediate requirements of the project with a future-facing view for Citycare by enabling additional systems to be plugged into Boomi Data Hub with minimal rework to the original system as delivered.”
Automated updates across systems
The integration means that when a change is made in one system, such as a new hire being registered in the HRIS, that update is now automatically reflected across payroll and IT systems. Previously, discrepancies between platforms would often lead staff to manually adjust data as a workaround, which introduced further errors over time.
Doocey pointed to improved data quality as one of the more tangible outcomes.
“Boomi has given us a degree of visibility that we’ve never had before,” he noted. “We’ve seen an improvement in the time it takes to get an employee from registering in our HR system to being active across all of our systems. We’ve also seen a real lift in data quality in the downstream systems – historically, when issues arose, staff would often work around them by manually adjusting the data. Implementing Boomi has put an end to that practice.”
A people-first approach to implementation
Doocey also credited Adaptiv’s consulting approach, which prioritised understanding Citycare Property’s internal processes before diving into the technology.
“The Adaptiv team was willing to set the technology aside and talk to our people,” he recalled.
That approach helped ensure the integration was designed around how Citycare Property’s teams actually worked, rather than forcing process changes to fit the platform.
Building a scalable foundation
The deployment is also intended to serve as a foundation for future growth. As Citycare Property expands and brings on more engineers, facilities managers and other staff, the unified data architecture is designed to scale without requiring significant rework.

David Irecki, Chief Technology Officer, APJ at Boomi, framed the project as an example of employee-centred integration delivering measurable results.
“Citycare Property has proven that putting the employee at the centre of your integration strategy delivers real, measurable results for the entire organisation,” Irecki commented. “In partnership with Adaptiv, Boomi is proud to support Citycare’s workforce modernisation and provide the data foundation that keeps their operations running smoothly.”
Broader context
Citycare Property is a New Zealand-owned social infrastructure organisation that works across building, maintenance, operations and renewal of essential infrastructure for government clients. The HR modernisation project reflects a broader trend among infrastructure and services companies looking to reduce administrative overhead and improve the employee experience through system integration, particularly as competition for skilled workers in construction and facilities management remains tight across the region.
